BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

The Specialist reports to the RPRM Deputy Office Director and provides policy and technical advice to the Mission and the OUs it supports in the area of gender and inclusive development and must be able to convey related highly specialized and complex concepts to diverse groups and stakeholders including senior U.S. government (USG) and high-level national personnel.
The Specialist works across the Mission and the OUs it supports to advance these policies through all phases of the Program Cycle, including in strategic planning, activity design and implementation, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning. Critically, they strengthen the capacity of staff and implementing partners at the Mission and the OUs it supports to actualize these policies. The Jobholder serves as the Activity Manager of the Mission’s gender equality and inclusive development-focused awards. The Specialist supports A/COR/Activity Managers in their efforts to integrate gender equality and inclusive development principles, practices, and objectives into all other awards of the Mission and the OUs it supports. Using an intersectional approach, they help promote equality and equity for women, men, people of diverse gender identities, and marginalized groups in USAID’s programming.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Head of Gender Unit, the incumbent will support the implementation of the refreshed Plan of Action of the ARC Gender Strategy in the following areas:
Programme Implementation
Contribute towards the implementation of activities of the Gender Unit including planning, administrative support, partnerships and donor engagement.
Provide programme management support through
Development of the Gender budget and ensure the payment of Consultants, Collaborators and Researchers on a timely basis subject to all administrative and organisational approvals;
Participation in the development of the Gender Unit Annual Programme of Work;
Development and tracking of the Gender Unit budget expenditure, including project funds;

Provide research assistance, including developing and managing relevant data bases, to consultants and partners working on studies, gender analyses, policy briefs and researches with relevant and updated qualitative and quantitative data available on the subject matter.
Policy dialogue, communication and advocacy:
Supporting the identification, development and management of potential partnerships to collaborative working leading to the achievement of the objectives of the Refreshed Gender Plan of Action
Liaising with ARC’s communications staff, contributions to the ARC website, assisting on social media, co-facilitating relevant events on advocacy for a gender sensitive policy environment in disaster risk financing.
Resource mobilisation:
Contribute to development of proposals;
Ensure donor reports are produced on a timely basis.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in one or more of the following disciplines: gender studies, social sciences, international development, agriculture, development economics, or other relevant field. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
A minimum of five (5) years post graduate professional experience is required.
Fluency in English is required with a working knowledge of French. Working knowledge of another AU official language –Arabic or Portuguese – is an added advantage.
Strong writing, research and analytical skills. Strong computer skills, including excellent skills in word processing, excel spreadsheet, presentation, database and other standard software packages and systems.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Inception Phase (3 months)
Defining Project Scope, Objectives, and Deliverables: Collaborate with Program Management Team Lead and Implementing Partners (IPs) to set clear project goals and deliverables, ensuring a unified understanding for successful outcomes.
Program Implementation Period
Actively monitor day-to-day activities, quickly identifying and resolving issues to maintain adherence to work plans, deliverables and strong partner performance.

Strategic Leadership- In collaboration with the Board and staff team, set an inspirational, clear, relevant and actionable strategy.
- Ensure the board’s skill and expertise are being used to greatest effect.
- Provide strong and empathetic leadership and management to the staff team and to volunteers.
Organisational Leadership-
Maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity. - Oversee key financial responsibilities, reporting and monitoring.
- Work effectively with the Chair and Board ensuring good governance, as well as high-quality and timely reporting to the Board.
External Voice- Maintain and develop strong relationships across the membership.

Policy and Communications
- Be the lead spokesperson for Fawcett, becoming a memorable and potent go-to voice of authority on matters of feminist policy and principle, and ensuring maximum exposure for our high-impact campaigns across a wide range of high-profile media outlets.
- Provide inspirational thought leadership through Fawcett’s public-facing work.
- Immersion in the feminist landscape regularly acting as a ‘voice’ for women’s equality and feminist issues.
Fundraising- Engage with funders and support the fundraising team in maintaining, developing and building new and diverse funder relationships.
- Oversee the implementation of the fundraising pipeline and strategy.

Demonstrable senior organisational and leadership and management experience with the ability to oversee the finance, governance and HR functions.Experience acquiring, building and maintaining strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and funders to drive influence, income and impact.

UNDP works with its national counterparts in the sub-region to support the implementation of national development priorities and achieve the sustainable development goals.Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance and supervision of the Gender Specialist, the Gender and Stabilization intern will provide support as follows:- Support with knowledge management, such as the collection of the gender best-practices, bi-monthly gender meetings with the stabilization gender focal points
- In cooperation with the Regional Bureau for Africa, assist with the development of a community of practice.
- Support with drafting progress reports, concept notes and terms of reference (inter-agency) meeting minutes, as well as proofreading technical documents.
- Support with the monitoring of the Stabilization programme implementation, with a focus on the gender related activities
- Assist in preparing (mid-annual) reports, proofread and provide feedback.
- Support the communications team in carrying out ongoing activities (event coverage, banners, various communications media, etc.).
During the assignment, the intern will gain experience in:- Knowledge Management;
- Gender Equality;
- Drafting and preparation of reports and minutes;
- Programme Management at a regional level, and understanding its complexities;
- Hands-on planning and implementation of stabilization programs, and gender activities;
- Gender mainstreaming in large, multi-country programs.

Required Skills and Experience
Eligibility
Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
(c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
(d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
Education:Current student in a higher education program, or recently graduated, in the field of social sciences, gender studies, international relations, economics, conflict studies, or humanitarian action.
Experience:- Existing expertise/ knowledge on Gender or Stabilization
- Knowledge of the context in West Africa.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in reviewing, proofreading, and editing proposals/decks
