The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, supporting development since 1947. We are an international development organisation owned and governed by our 27 country and territory members. We are known for our knowledge and innovation in such areas as fisheries science, public health surveillance, geoscience, and conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.
The Gender and Climate Intern – will support the creation of a comprehensive Gender and Climate Statistical Factsheet for Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs). This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to essential research on the intersection of gender and climate change in the Pacific, which will inform evidence-based policy and enhance gender-responsive climate actions across the region.
The key responsibilities of the role include the following:
- Collaborate with the Statistics for Development Division (SDD) and the Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability (CCES) Division to gather and analyze existing data on gender and climate change
- Identify relevant gender and climate indicators and assist in data harmonization to create a core database
- Contribute to the development of a factsheet that highlights key indicators and gender-responsive climate action strategies
- Assist in the preparation of policy briefs, knowledge products, and dissemination activities, including workshops and webinars
- Work closely with relevant SPC staff and divisions to ensure timely project delivery
The key deliverables are:
- Inception Report outlining the project methodology and work plan
- Completed factsheets for PICTs with available and sufficient data
- Policy briefs and knowledge products to support advocacy and capacity building
- Support the validation and dissemination of the Gender and Climate Factsheet
Key selection criteria
Applicants must be/have:
- Enrolled in or completed a degree within the previous 12 months in environmental studies, gender studies, social sciences, or related fields
- Strong interest in gender equality, climate change, and sustainable development in the Pacific context
- Quantitative analysis skills
- Experience with research
- Experience with data and analysis
- Strong English language skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment
- Basic knowledge of climate and gender issues in the Pacific is highly desirable
- R or Stata skills are desirable
