Gender-based violence (GBV) LGBTQI+ rights/ SOGIESC
The California Women’s Law Center (CWLC) is dedicated to breaking down barriers and advancing the rights of women and girls through impact litigation, policy advocacy, and education. Our work focuses on ensuring women’s economic security, addressing threats to women’s health and reproductive rights, fighting violence against women, and seeking a level playing field for girls in K-12 sports through the enforcement of Title IX and California laws.

CWLC is pleased to invite applications for sponsorship of a fellowship opportunity, such as Skadden, Equal Justice Works, Justice Catalyst, or any other comparable fellowships, for the two-year period beginning in September 2026. This fellowship offers recent law school graduates the opportunity to gain experience in litigation, direct legal services, community education, policy advocacy, and broader public interest legal practice. CWLC will collaborate with the selected candidate to develop a compelling fellowship proposal and provide support throughout the application process. Applicants are encouraged to propose and discuss project ideas in one or more of CWLC’s priority areas:

• Women’s Economic Security: Addressing systemic barriers to financial stability, advocating for pay equity, housing protections, and economic policies that support women and families.
• Women’s Health: Expanding access to reproductive healthcare, addressing gender disparities in medical treatment, and advocating for policies that improve women’s overall health and well-being.
• Title IX Athletics and Discrimination: Enforcing gender equity in education and athletics, fighting sex-based discrimination in schools, and ensuring compliance with Title IX protections.
• Violence Against Women: Review of protections that ensure the safety of women and girls with a focus on intimate partner violence and campus sexual assault and harassment.

The ideal candidate for sponsorship will demonstrate the following:
• Passion for gender and LGBTQIA+ justice and advancing women’s rights.
• A strong commitment to public interest law and experience working with impacted communities.
• Knowledge of and interest in civil rights, gender justice, and anti-discrimination law.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and client communities.
• Strong academic performance and leadership abilities.
• Membership in the California Bar (preferred but not required).

We strongly encourage candidates from underrepresented communities to apply. Join us in the fight for gender justice and help make a lasting impact on the lives of women and girls in California and beyond!
