Economic justiceBackground
The Graça Machel Trust (GMT) is a pan-African organisation founded in 2010 and represented in 18 countries to remove structural and institutional barriers limiting women’s economic advancement, to achieve the long-term vision for an Africa where women have greater access to resources, skills, and opportunities, enabling them to thrive both socially and economically.
Programme Information
Women Creating Wealth - Intergenerational Edition (WCW-l) aims to transform Africa’s economies through a gender-responsive enterprise development system centered around women’s businesses to accelerate and sustain improvements in the quality of life for women and youth. The project is implemented from January 2023 to January 2025 and has now secured a No Cost Extension to run through February 2027 with Implementation stopping in September 2026.
Through this Initiative, we posit that: if women entrepreneurs in the targeted sectors receive human-centered personal, leadership, and entrepreneurship capacity strengthening; have access to a community of support, finance, and markets; and exist in an enabling environment, their enterprises will grow and transform from income generation to wealth creation.10 As their enterprises grow, more meaningful work will be created for young women. Female small business owners in the informal sector reinvest up to 90% of their income in the education, health and nutrition of their families and communities, compared to up to 40% for men (Africa Economy, 2020).
As women create wealth, they are therefore more likely to contribute to the realization of at least 6 Sustainable Development goals – zero poverty; zero hunger; good health and wellbeing; gender equality; decent work and economic growth.

Digital rights Human rights Peace and SecurityFor over a decade, the Sister-to-Sister Young Feminist Leadership Program has been a cornerstone of NWI’s strategy to foster a world where feminist peace and security prevail.
The Sister-to-Sister program brings together young feminist leaders — sisters — in an intensive virtual program which fosters crucial solidarity, support, sisterhood, and skills-building to better equip activists for the challenges ahead. This year’s program theme is:“Peace in the Age of AI: Building Feminist Futures.”
Artificial intelligence is reshaping how power and violence are exercised — from AI-driven disinformation, deepfakes and coordinated online harassment used to silence women in public life, to the rise of autonomous weapons systems transforming the future of conflict. The information ecosystem is a critical site of power, and it is deeply gendered. Women are both on its frontlines and leading efforts to reshape it.
Women journalists, peacebuilders, content creators, communicators, and human rights defenders are increasingly targeted at the intersection of these threats, where narrative warfare online and AI-enabled security risks converge. These technologies are not neutral — they reflect and amplify existing inequalities and feminist leadership in shaping how they are governed has never been more urgent.
Building on the work of NWI Nobel Laureates — particularly Maria Ressa, whose journalism and advocacy have been at the forefront of defending truth, accountability and democratic space in the digital age — the 2026 Sister-to-Sister cohort will move from analysis to action.
We at NWI know first-hand that when young women are grounded in their histories, communities and lived realities, they rise with courage, clarity and fierce commitment to equality for all. Guided by the lived experiences of NWI’s Nobel laureates and inspired by Maria Ressa’s visionary leadership, this year’s program reflects our commitment to cultivating the next generation of feminist leaders equipped to navigate, challenge and reshape the digital world.
Twenty five young, feminist activists will take part in a 6-week intensive virtual learning program from 24 August to 28 September 2026.
Criteria for applicants:- Passion for and some experience in supporting feminist peacebuilding, women’s rights, digital rights, and/or feminist social justice movements as volunteers, professionals, or activists.
- Drive and potential to be an impactful feminist leader within local contexts.
- Able to effectively engage in English.
- Willing and able to commit to full participation in at least 80% of live, cohort-wide sessions.
- Candidates must be between 18–35 years old.
- Trans and non-binary activists are encouraged to apply.

Digital rightsAbout GRIT and this role
GRIT is a feminist technology organisation that builds community-co-created Al to advance gender rights, safety and justice. We are building a dedicated, women-of-colour-led feminist-tech team. The Al Technical Lead is the senior technical role at the centre of that move — owning what we build, how we build it, and how we measure whether it actually helps. The vision is to grow this technical team into both a pipeline for young African women in Al and a sustainable income stream for GRIT. This is a feminist-tech role. In addition to investment in the technology, we are looking for excitement about the team, data practice, and metrics tracking how we support those we serve. We are excited to hire a technical leader who embodies GRIT’s feminist, Afrocentric and co-creation values.
Purpose
To lead the technical build, deployment and continuous improvement of GRIT’s feminist Al products - primarily (1) scaling Zuzi, our multilingual WhatsApp companion (RAG across 11+ South African languages plus Shona), towards 50,000 monthly interactions and beyond and (2) building inFORMed, GRIT’s new Gen-Al tool that completes protection-order forms, from the ground up. This looks like embedding feminist and Afrocentric principles into both the design and the measurement of impact, grounding everything in community co-creation, keeping GRIT at the frontier of Al, and growing a team and a fellowship-and-services model that serves young African women and generates income for the organisation.
Person Specification- Senior, hands-on experience building and deploying production LLM / Al systems (RAG, prompt engineering, evaluation, deployment).
- A genuine self-starter who stays at the frontier of Al without external direction.
- Deep, demonstrated commitment to feminist, survivor-centred and community-co-created technology.
- Enthusiasm for and ideally experience with Afrocentric / contextualised approaches to Al design and impact measurement.
- Track record of leading technical delivery and mentoring more junior engineers and fellows.
- 5-10+ years software engineering (ideal: strong Python and distributed systems experience)
- 2-4+ years ML/AI
- Shipping production systems
- Experience owning architecture
- PhD or published papers in theoretical ML

Child protection/ Children’s rights GBV / VAWG Health PSEA/ Safeguarding Sexual & reproductive rights (SRHR) YouthBackgroundAdolescents in humanitarian settings face acute and compounding sexual and reproductive health (SRH) risks due to displacement, breakdown of protective social structures, and disruption of health services. Fragile contexts exacerbate adolescents’ exposure to sexual and gender-based violence, early and forced marriage, unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, and sexually transmitted infections including HIV, while simultaneously limiting access to accurate information and confidential, adolescent responsive services. Adolescent girls are at heightened risk of pregnancy-related complications, which remain a leading cause of death among girls aged 15–19 in crisis-affected settings, while both adolescent girls and boys experience barriers linked to stigma, discrimination and misconceptions, legal restrictions, provider bias, and lack of youth‑ friendly care.
The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), in partnership with the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), and with support from the European Commission - DG ECHO aims to address capacity gaps in meeting the SRH needs of adolescents living in humanitarian settings. To Achieve this, we are looking for improving service provision by WROs and YLO with an adolescents and youth-led approach and for the adolescent-adult mentoring and supportive supervision mechanism. This includes promoting structured youth-adult partnerships, whereby adolescents can meaningfully inform and guide adult actors on their needs, preferences, and required service adaptations. In parallel, there is a need to equip women- and youth-led Organizations with practical, context-specific guidance to support the delivery of adolescent-responsive SRH information and services.
Objectives of this Consultancy:To strengthen the multisectoral integration and quality of ASRH interventions in humanitarian settings by developing participatory, adolescents- and youth-responsive service provision guidelines, and by designing an adolescent- informed mentoring and supportive supervision guidance to support humanitarian actors in adapting and delivering inclusive ASRH information and services.
Required Qualifications and Experience- Advanced degree in Public Health, SRH, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience in programming in humanitarian settings.
- Proven experience in developing guidelines, frameworks, or technical tools.
- Demonstrated skill in working directly with young people using friendly, comfortable, and age-appropriate communication styles.
- Demonstrated experience working with WROs and YLOs and applying participatory approaches.
- Strong facilitation, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Familiarity with humanitarian coordination mechanisms and standards is an asset.
- A strict commitment to and deep understanding of safeguarding, do-no-harm principles, and child protection policies.
- Fluency in English (knowledge of any other local language spoken in Ethiopia or Nigeria is an asset).
