Child protection/ Children’s rights Movement buildingWHAT WE DO
Young people from lower income families are 40% less likely to go to University than wealthier peers (Dept for Education, 2020) which can have a lifelong impact on earning potential. Covid-19 has deepened inequalities (Social Mobility Foundation, 2022) and negatively impacted on young people's wellbeing (GirlGuiding, 2020). We believe that no girls should have their futures limited by their gender, sex, ethnicity, background, or parental income and they should be supported to realise their ambitions, to discover their self-worth, and to develop their capacity to shape their world and their futures.
We work in communities of least advantage across England to deliver two core programmes to achieve this vision. Through our mentoring programme we connect 14-19 year old girls with a mentor and a wider network of role models who are women and deliver opportunities which help them to build life skills and nurture their ambitions.
Based on the idea that 'you can't be what you can't see', our mentors often help girls to broaden their horizons and create a more positive vision of their futures. After the programme, the mentees can join a free, lifelong network of support - our Ambassador Community, which offers further opportunities to reach their goals, build their confidence and to share their voices and experiences. Our programmes help girls and young women to develop the knowledge, skills, selfbelief and opportunities to thrive, and to be supported as part of a network that champions them and ensures their voices are heard.
THE ROLE
The Fundraising Manager (Partnerships) role is a fantastic opportunity to lead on developing partnerships with The Girls’ Network's corporate and public sector supporters. The programme is well established with £170,000 worth of partners already on board. There is an opportunity to put your own stamp on the work, developing new collateral and ideas for excellent partnerships. The role is within our Fundraising & Communications team of four staff and works in collaboration with regional Senior Network Managers. There is an opportunity for the post holder to collaborate with the Fundraising Manager (Trusts and Foundations) on the development of grant applications.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
You will have at least five years’ relevant experience as a fundraiser or in other similar roles e.g. marketing or sales, ideally with at least three years working in fundraising and be able to demonstrate previous success in generating income and achieving targets.
You will be an exceptional communicator with the confidence to work on your own initiative and to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
You will be well organised with excellent attention to detail, work well under pressure and have the ability to think both strategically and operationally.
You have a good understanding of the disadvantages faced by both women and those from the least advantaged communities and have a drive to rectify the inequalities that currently exist.
You thrive on the potential to make a real difference with your work.*When clicking on “Apply”, you will be redirected to the original job announcement and details

Racial justice Generic (e.g. 'gender focal point' role Gender equality and Social inclusion (GESI)Organizational context
Founded by two Black women in the aftermath of the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests around the world, the African Futures Lab (AfaLab) works to advance demands for racial justice for Africans and Afro-descended people. We pursue the recognition and repair of global racial injustices through rigorous, empirically grounded knowledge exchange across Africa and Europe. Our work includes research, "Mobilization Labs" with partner organizations, and advocacy.Project contextThe aim of this project is therefore to raise awareness of the persistence of racial prejudice against black women in our societies in Europe and Africa, and to tackle the injustice and suffering that this causes to those concerned.
Drawing on robust data from a research report, this project aims to raise awareness among the public, civil society organizations, and authorities in Europe and Africa about the dual violence Black women experience at the intersection of race and gender.
To put it another way, we want to draw attention to the fact that black women's bodies are an instrument of colonial expansion policies, but also to underline how black women's bodies are, in contemporary times, a tool in the foundation of racial and patriarchal domination.
To this end, we aim to conduct a research project documenting the persistence of stereotypes and injustices against Black women from colonization to the present day in two former colonial powers (the UK and Germany) and their former colonies (Kenya and Namibia).
The main questions raised by this research project are as follows:
- How did colonial administrations and European populations view African women during the colonial era?
- What were the colonial legal, political and social measures that affected or were aimed specifically at African women?
- What are the political, socio-economic, and human rights consequences for their lives?
- Are there differences between colonies and over time?
- What remains of these stereotypes in the European and African countries concerned?
- What are the consequences for women's daily lives in terms of their personal experiences and their social, political and economic lives?
- To what extent do these stereotypes persist in national and international public policies targeting this population?
Required qualifications
- PhD in qualitative and/or quantitative social sciences. Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to history, law, sociology, anthropology, political science and economics.
- Thematic expertise in gender studies.
- Thematic expertise in historical and contemporary racial injustices.
- Demonstrated experience in qualitative and/or quantitative social science research, including field research.
- Proven experience in conducting operational research.
- Excellent writing skills, demonstrated by a record of publications.
- Required language skills: Excellent command of English.
