What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Leadership on Gender Equality Integration for the Agency for All Project (50%)

  • Lead implementation of the gender strategy for the USAID Agency for All project, which generates new evidence to understand agency and empowerment within health and SBC programs, including providing technical support, developing guidance and checklists, monitoring, and reviewing the strategy periodically.
  • Build internal and external understanding of the intersections between gender equality, SBC, and agency within Agency for All partners and the broader SBC field.
  • Form, lead and convene a group of “Gender Champions” among Agency for All partners.
  • Support generation of evidence and learning on gender-related SBC programs, including coordination of gender-related research activities.
  • Integrate gender into project monitoring, evaluation, learning, and adaptive management activities and input into guidance on monitoring, evaluation and learning for SBC programs.
  • Lead training to strengthen awareness of and capacity for gender integration within SBC project activities.
  • Promote feminist partnerships and decolonial feminist research through development of guidance, learning opportunities, and facilitated critical reflection.
  • Advance SBC practitioners’ and researchers’ understandings of how sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC), intersectionality, and male engagement intersect with agency
Leadership on Gender Equality Integration in Department of Global Health (40%)

  • Provide technical leadership and expertise in gender equality and gender-based violence prevention and response (GBV) in developing US Government proposals ensuring utilization of best-practices and evidence-based approaches (e.g., writing and reviewing gender/GBV sections and integrating gender/GBV into budgets, monitoring and evaluation, activities, and documentation).
  • Support the Global Health Gender Equality Lead to advance staff’s technical capacity in gender equality and GBV through knowledge sharing and managing and developing gender/GBV tools and resources.
  • Develop and facilitate learning events and training on the intersection of global health, gender equality, social justice, and GBV prevention and response.
Project Technical Assistance (10%)

  • Support formative research including intersectional gender analyses and development of Gender Equality Strategies/Action Plans.
  • Monitor and adjust strategies/action plans as needed.
  • Design and review gender equality and GBV training materials and lead training to strengthen the technical capacity of project staff.
  • Ensure coherence of technical design and integration of gender equality and GBV into project activities and monitoring and evaluation. 
  • Document learnings on gender equality and GBV contributing to project knowledge management, documentation, and learning.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in providing technical assistance on gender equality and GBV integration into programming and research (e.g., through gender/GBV strategy implementation; supporting research design, implementation, and data analysis; leading capacity strengthening trainings, etc.).
  • Proven knowledge of research ethics and experience applying decolonial, feminist, and participatory qualitative methods to support intersectional research and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting intersectional gender analyses, including study design, data collection, and analysis for US government donors.
