JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Specialist, Women and Gender Equity will develop and lead strategic initiatives and projects designed to improve access public engagement and satisfaction with municipal services. The Specialist, Women and Gender Equity will design and/or develop plans for the implementation of the City's Women and Gender Equity Strategy and all relevant work on integrating a gender lens in City policies, plans and strategies.
This work will include capacity building, community development and program evaluation methods, and assessment and analysis of social policy, community issues, or related legislative changes affecting the public's experiences with municipal services. Special focus will be placed on working with community partners on strategies that enhance service experiences of often marginalized neighbourhoods and/or groups of residents which may include low- income residents, immigrants, youth, aboriginal people, women and seniors.
Working across the department and Corporation, this position will primarily focus on the evaluation of phase one of the Strategy and the development of phase two strategic framework, and implementation of the Strategy, and other equity and inclusion initiatives. The position will consult to develop priorities, drive data-collection and create measurable, outcome-based results and align with other equity strategies including Anti-Racism Strategy, Reconciliation Action Plan, Corporate Diversity and Inclusion Plan, Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan and others. The position is responsible for advancing an intersectional approach to research, policy, program and practice reviews and to provide leadership, expertise, and education in support of building an inclusive and welcoming City for all. The position will work within a staff team, and in collaboration with senior management, elected officials, liaisons, champions and sponsors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year university degree in social work, health, social science, public administration or a related field
Master's Degree in social or health sciences, public administration or related field is desirable
Gender training or post graduate diploma is desirable
Minimum of 5 years of varied, in-depth, incremental work experience in social services, public service, research and statistical analysis, project management, community development, and strategic planning
Previous work in women gender equity and equality and gender- based violence is favorable
KNOWLEDGE
- Community stakeholders advancing women and gender equity and services in Ottawa and community services that address gender needs including gender-based violence services.
- Corporate and departmental policies and procedures
- Community development, capacity building and inclusive public engagement theory, concepts and practice
