Main tasks
  1.  Set and drive the long-term strategic direction for EDI people and culture across the charity with support from the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  2.  Lead the strategic direction of learning and development across the charity and for all staff and volunteers.
  3.  Drive the development of a co-produced EDI strategy and action plan with the charity and its stakeholders.
  4.  Lead and inspire the HR team and function for the charity.
  5.  Provide inspirational leadership, driving client delivery, embedding a culture of change, continuous improvement and excellent people engagement and management.
  6.  With senior leaders, create and embed an organisational culture of respect and inclusivity in the services we provide and in the workforce we engage.
  7.  Ensure EDI implications are considered in decision-making associated with changes to services, policies and practices.
  8.  Use existing organisational data to develop meaningful EDI metrics to plot and measure organisational progress.
  9.  Embed the EDI strategy across the organisation and its domains.
  10.  Co-chair the Race Equity Strategy group, a cross-organisational staff group created to develop and monitor progress against the strategy and action plan with the CEO.
  11.  Ensure clear, regular, insightful and engaging communication to the charity on progress, achievements, and priorities
  12.  Reduce identified gaps, evaluation of initiatives, and engagement with systems to support continual learning and improvement.
  13.  Report to senior management, staff, users, funders and trustees to include progress against the action plan and plans for the next quarter.
  14.  Lead on positive and collaborative employee relations, including negotiations with staff.
  15.  Design, develop, lead and implement effective change initiatives to support the overall direction of METRO.
  16.  Work with the Head of Human Resources (HR) and Volunteering to review recruitment processes to ensure barriers are removed to increase the diversity of applicants and appointees across all roles at all levels of the charity.

Person specitication
5 of 6 from the CIPD (e.g.Level 7) or a Degree in HR management, psychology or business-related subject or equivalent qualification
Experience of developing and implementing strategic and operational level interventions to challenge and improve structural and systemic inequality in making an organisation inclusive and equitable
Significant experience (3 years and above) of managing HR services at a senior level in a medium-sized charity and a track record of successful achievement.
Experience (3 years and above) in leading change on equality, diversity and inclusion across all levels of an organisation with multiple sites
Experience in successfully leading and managing whole organisational change projects from design, implementation and review
Knowledge of equality and HR legislation and best practice.
Experience in overseeing delivery around complex HR issues and processes.
