DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Engagement and Capacity Building
  • Creates meaningful volunteer opportunities that involve community and aid Rainbow Railroad’s mission.
  • Supports volunteer groups to engage in sponsorship opportunities and models in the U.S. and Canada to ensure successful resettlement outcomes.
  • Identifies opportunities and pathways for volunteers to contribute to the organization, including through volunteer hours, in-kind contributions, and other relevant mechanisms.
  • Ensures training and appropriate onboarding of all volunteers is completed and utilizes administrative systems to track volunteer training outreach, contracts, hours, and relationship management.
  • Designs and implements workshops that deepen community and stakeholder understanding of key elements of Rainbow Railroad’s work, including the centering of lived experience, racial justice, and queer liberation.
  • Plans and implements periodic engagement programs and activities to recognize volunteers and build a sense of community among them, including opportunities to reflect on their experiences.
  • Creates a community of practice among private sponsorship volunteers within the Welcome Corps program in the U.S.
  • Verifies that volunteer management policies and procedures are documented, disseminated, and consistently applied for all engaged volunteers.
  • Supports the implementation and management of the Welcome Corps program in the U.S.
  • Makes recommendations on continuous improvement of engagement policies and processes.

Organizational Culture and Development/Staff Engagement
  • In collaboration with the Operations Team, develops and enables creative values-based organizational development interventions (team building, cross-departmental engagement, training) that increases staff engagement and strengthens organizational culture.
  • In collaboration with departmental managers, supports facilitation of team engagement strategies and events
  • Supports leadership with staff feedback data collection and processing

CI Engagement
  • In collaboration with the Program and Development teams, identifies opportunities to meaningfully engage case individuals at various points in their journey, including opportunities for partnership.
  • Builds meaningful reciprocal relationships with case individuals interested in volunteer opportunities.
  • Develop opportunities for participation in various leadership development and campaign activities in support of Rainbow Railroad’s mission.
  • Facilitates engagement of case individuals and ensures adherence to ethical guidelines, policy, and process.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Requirement
  • A minimum of 3 years of volunteer engagement experience within the social sector and/or in a similar role
  • Strong analysis of racial and LGBTQI+ justice principles and experience working with communities of color; trans, genderqueer and gender non-conforming communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of projects with efficiency, to be detail-oriented and to problem-solve.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable speaking in public with an energetic and engaging training style.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize tasks seamlessly with precision.
  • Demonstrated success in leading organizational projects to successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated skill and success in working with organizational senior management or volunteer leadership
  • High functioning critical thinking, problem solving and data management skills
  • Ability to work effectively and exercise good judgment with all levels of volunteers, staff, committee members and the public.
