Background
The Global Survivors Fund (GSF) was launched in October 2019 by Nobel Peace Prize laureates Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad. Its mission is to enhance access to reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the globe, thus responding to a gap long identified by survivors. GSF acts to provide interim reparative measures in situations where states or other parties are unable or unwilling to meet their responsibilities. It advocates for duty bearers and the international community to develop reparations programmes and also guides states and civil society by providing expertise and technical support. GSF’s survivor-centric approach is the cornerstone of its work.

Role Summary
The Financial Control Manager safeguards the integrity, accuracy and completeness of GSF’s accounting records and financial control environment. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Systems, the role oversees accounting quality, financial closure, operational treasury, statutory and regulatory compliance, audit preparation, and continuous improvement of financial policies, procedures and controls. The Manager directly manages and supervises the Financial Control Assistant and reviews work executed by the Assistant, the Account Payable part of the Procurement officer role and outsourced accounting provider, ensuring clear delegation, timely delivery and appropriate review without duplicating day-to-day execution. The role also provides Finance Business Partnering to Operations Heads of Unit and HR and technical financial-control guidance across GSF.

Position Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Recognised professional accounting qualification, or advanced degree in accounting, finance or business administration with equivalent professional expertise;
    At least seven years of relevant experience in financial accounting, control, audit or finance operations, including experience at a senior technical or supervisory level;
    Demonstrated experience of general-ledger oversight, financial closure, balance-sheet reconciliations, annual financial statements and audit coordination;
    Strong knowledge of and experience with GAAP FER accounting standards and exposure to Swiss law with regards to Foundations;
    Strong experience of internal controls, policies, statutory and tax compliance, treasury and operational finance processes;
    Experience managing outsourced accounting or other finance service providers;
    Experience in an international, multi-country and multicurrency environment; experience in a donor-funded, grant-making, humanitarian or international-development organisation is highly desirable;
    Experience using accounting or ERP systems and contributing to finance-process or systems improvements;
    Experience supervising, coaching or reviewing the work of finance staff.

Other requirements
  • Excellent written and spoken English and working knowledge of French;
    Strong technical accounting, reconciliation, analytical and problem-solving skills;
    High attention to detail, accuracy and documentation, with the ability to prioritise and meet demanding deadlines;
    Sound judgement, integrity, independence and confidence to challenge constructively and escalate control concerns;
    Ability to communicate financial requirements clearly to financial and non-financial colleagues and work collaboratively across cultures and functions;
