About this Role:
Nirantar is currently undertaking an eight-state study on mapping
gender-based practices in government schools in India. The study will map the construction,
and performance of masculinity and femininity within the space of the school while looking
at their linkages with violence, desires, aspirations, and merit. This is a qualitative study,
informed by the principles of action research and feminist research methodologies. We are
currently looking to recruit a senior researcher for this study, who will play a significant role
in data collection, report writing, and study dissemination. This is a full-time role, where the
senior researcher will be expected to work from Nirantar's office in New Delhi.

Scope of Work:
- Plan and develop tools for data collection in consultation with the research team and study
partners
- Undertake data collection, constantly support, and facilitate youth researchers in collecting
data within their respective area
- Facilitate data analysis, in consultation with the study partners and youth researchers
- Write study report, and support in the development of different knowledge products,
including a/v material, papers, policy briefs, booklets etc. to widen the scope of the
dissemination of the study
- Liaison with different stakeholders, including government stakeholders, academic
institutions, and international and regional organisations to disseminate the study
- Support partner organisations and youth researchers to disseminate the study at a local level
- Present the study findings at different forums and support organisations who show an
interest in undertaking a similar study
- Support other research efforts of Nirantar, especially the ones that can be informed by the
process and findings of this study.

Requirements:
- A minimum of five years of experience in qualitative research, especially on issues related
to gender and sexuality. Preference will be given to those who have prior experience in the
field of education.
- Prior experience in project management, liaison and networking
- Thoroughness with feminist research methodologies, critical concepts of masculinity,
femininity, gender performativity, sexuality, and neo-liberalism
- Excellent writing skills in the English language
- Working knowledge of spoken and written Hindi
- Ability to unpack dense research findings in ways that can be accessed and disseminated by
multiple stakeholders, including the youth researchers who will be engaged in this study
- Familiarity with either Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi or Telugu will be a bonus.
Location - New Delhi, with travel to the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra,
Bihar, Kerala, Telangana and West Bengal
