MSIAP seeks an independent consultant to deliver a defined package of GEDSI workshop, knowledge-management, technical-assistance coordination and compliance products during August–December 2026. The assignment is project-based and is not intended to fill an ongoing staff position or create an expectation of continuing work.

The Consultant will be accountable for the agreed deliverables and acceptance criteria in section 4. Subject to those requirements, applicable law and the relevant external-provider policies identified in section 10, the Consultant will determine the methodology, sequencing, hours and location of work required to deliver the outputs.

Intended outcomes

  • A complete and usable planning, delivery and follow-up package for the Regional GEDSI Workshop.
  • A consolidated GEDSI and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) knowledge management package that improves access to evidence, resources and learning across the region.
  • Defined products that support follow-up of GEDSI technical assistance to country programmes.
  • A structured GEDSI and safeguarding evidence package for agreed donor and accreditation requirements. 

 


Timing and commercial basis

The assignment is expected to commence in August 2026 and conclude no later than 18 December 2026, unless the parties agree a different final date in writing.

The maximum available professional-fee budget is AUD $20,000, inclusive of any applicable GST and the Consultant’s ordinary business expenses. Pre-approved travel required by MSIAP will be reimbursed separately in accordance with MSIAP policy. MSIAP will separately assess and meet any superannuation guarantee obligation that applies by law, and the final contract will state how that obligation is treated within the approved budget.

Qualifications and capability

The assignment is suitable for an early-career consultant or consulting entity able to demonstrate the following:
  • A bachelor’s degree in gender studies, international development or another relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least one year of relevant professional, consulting, research, programme or project experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or a strong evidence-based interest in, gender equality, disability and social inclusion, SGBV and/or safeguarding.
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills, including the ability to produce concise briefing papers, workshop materials, reports, action records and evidence syntheses.
  • Ability to plan and deliver defined outputs independently, manage dependencies and deadlines, and incorporate consolidated client feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Ability to provide the services as an independent business, including invoicing under the applicant’s legal name or entity and ABN, and maintaining any insurance required by the final contract.

Desirable experience:
  • Previous work with NGOs, international development programmes or regional/country programme teams.
  • Experience organising workshops, synthesising evidence, managing knowledge products or preparing donor/compliance documentation.
  • A postgraduate qualification in gender studies, international development or another relevant field.
