Every child deserves to feel safe, heard and hopeful.
We provide safe accommodation and specialist support for survivors of domestic abuse across East Sussex. We are looking for compassionate, creative and reflective Therapeutic Practitioners to join our growing children's team and help young people recover, develop resilience and thrive.
About the role
This is far more than a support role.
You'll build meaningful relationships with children and young people aged 0–18, providing therapeutic, practical and emotional support tailored to their individual needs. Working from a trauma-informed and social pedagogical approach, you'll create opportunities for children to play, express themselves, build confidence and develop healthy relationships.
No two days are the same. One day you might be delivering a creative therapeutic activity with a young child, the next supporting a teenager with life skills, advocating with a school, or helping a family navigate a difficult transition.
You'll work flexibly across our refuge accommodation throughout East Sussex as part of a compassionate, reflective and supportive team committed to achieving the very best outcomes for children.
What you'll be doing
You'll:
- Build trusted relationships with children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.
- Deliver engaging one-to-one and group sessions using creative and therapeutic approaches such as play, art, sensory activities, music, journaling and therapeutic games.
- Support children's emotional wellbeing, resilience, recovery and healthy development.
- Help children understand healthy relationships, consent, emotional regulation, boundaries and online safety.
- Support young people preparing for adulthood through life skills, education and career guidance.
- Work alongside parents and carers to strengthen family relationships and promote children's wellbeing.
- Complete assessments, maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding plans.
- Work closely with schools, social care, CAMHS, health professionals and other partner agencies.
- Help create safe, nurturing and child-centred refuge environments.
You may already work in children's services, education, youth work, family support, residential childcare, foster care, refuge services, social care or therapeutic or clinical settings.
Most importantly, you'll bring:
- Experience working directly with children and young people.
- Experience supporting children affected by trauma, abuse or adverse childhood experiences.
- A sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Knowledge of child development and trauma-informed practice.
- The ability to build trusting relationships with children and families.
- Confidence delivering one-to-one and group activities.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A reflective, compassionate and non-judgemental approach
