 PURPOSE 
The State Commissioner should be passionate about ensuring the future of Girl Guiding in Victoria and while ensuring that the traditions of Guiding are maintained, works towards modernizing the program so that it is compatible with the needs of today’s, and tomorrow’s, girls, young women and volunteers. 

PRINCIPLE ROLE 
• To model and promote the Promise and Law by supporting and representing all members of Girl Guides Victoria. 
• To oversee the implementation of the aims of Girl Guides Australia/Victoria. 
• To maintain the responsibility of Girl Guides Victoria to a child safe and child friendly culture. 

 REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT.
 • To have been an Adult member of Girl Guides Victoria for a minimum of three years and to have made the Girl Guide Promise. 
• To have an understanding of the different affiliated groups within Girl Guides Victoria. 
• To have an understanding of the Australian Guide Program and the Australian Learning and Qualification Program. 
• To have strong communication and administrative skills and be able to relate well to a wide variety of people. 
• To hold or be working towards the appropriate Management qualification in the Australian Learning and Qualification Program. To be completed within 12 months of appointment. 
• The time commitment is flexible but approximately 2 days per week. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 
• To work with the Governance Chair and the CEO and her team to ensure that Girl Guides Victoria is administered properly and competently according to the direction of the State Council or Board either directly or indirectly.  • To build a supportive and inclusive Guiding culture and to promote the development of Guiding throughout the community in Victoria. 
• To develop an effective working relationship and maintain regular contact with the Chief Commissioner and advise her of areas of concerns or opportunities for the promotion of Guiding and participate in meetings as required by Girl Guides Australia. 
• To attend Board meetings and be an ex-officio member of all Board SubCommittees. 
• To chair the Guide Management Team meetings and work with Region Managers to support the volunteers. 
• To appoint up to 3 assistants and to create a State Team that meets the requirements and responsibilities of the State Commissioner. 
• To delegate responsibility to suitably qualified and experienced people for areas that require specific expertise to ensure that the needs of Girl Guides Victoria are being met.
