Summary
GATE is seeking to recruit a Health Officer to support the implementation of our health programs, with the goal of advancing health rights and access for trans and gender diverse communities. The Health Officer will work directly under the supervision of the Health Lead to support high-level international health rights advocacy and assist GATE members to strengthen national and regional health advocacy work.
The Health Officer will combine a deep understanding of international health systems with experience in health rights advocacy for the trans and gender diverse community. The ability to represent GATE in key decision-making spaces and work with member organizations from different global regions is essential to the role.
The Health Officer will form part of a dynamic team and collaborate with our Human Rights and Movement Building programs to ensure that GATE’s health rights advocacy is aligned with broader human rights advocacy and provides concrete benefits to GATE’s membership.
Key Responsibilities
Project management
- Support the Health Lead in planning, implementing and monitoring health-related projects.
- Assisting in coordinating re-granting programs.
- Liaise with grant recipients to identify capacity-strengthening needs and identify synergies with other GATE capacity-strengthening initiatives.
Research and Knowledge Production:
- Assist in the development of research reports, health advocacy materials and training courses.
Membership Capacity Strengthening
- Provide technical assistance and training to GATE members on health-related issues.
Health Advocacy and Engagement
- Represent GATE in international or regional health advocacy spaces.
Administrative and Additional Support
- Utilize GATE’s internal systems (e.g., project management, budget tracking, Monitoring and Evaluation tools) to manage daily responsibilities and support program coordination efficiently.
- Assist in the preparation of funding proposals and reports to donors as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of and experience in trans and gender diverse health rights advocacy.
- Demonstrated commitment to the rights and well-being of trans and gender diverse communities.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on cultural competence and sensitivity.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, ClickUp and other digital project management tools.
- Familiarity with using social media to document key activities for project reporting.
- Familiarity with community-led research.
- Fluency in additional languages is an advantage.
