MISSION OBJECTIVE:
The Senior Legal Advisor, LAC contributes to Equality Now’s mission to achieve gender equality and end discrimination and violence against women and girls. Guided by the organization’s values of integrity, inclusivity, tenacity, and perseverance, this role advances legal reform and access to justice throughout the LAC region by applying expert legal analysis, advocacy, and strategic litigation.

Success in this role is demonstrated through high-quality, timely legal outputs; measurable contributions to regional and international legal reform; strengthened partnerships with legal actors; and recognition of Equality Now’s leadership in human rights forums.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is a general outline of duties and responsibilities for this role. It is not an exhaustive list, and additional duties may be assigned or removed at the discretion of the Regional Representative, LAC to meet organizational needs and priorities:
Purpose: Analyze with Insight
- Identifies legal and policy frameworks, models, and strategies that inform Equality Now’s program and advocacy development within the LAC region.
- Analyzes existing legal systems, policies, and mechanisms to generate insights and legal strategies that enhance the relevance, value, and measurable impact of Equality Now’s regional and global programs.
- Conduct rigorous legal and policy analysis of international, regional, and national frameworks addressing sexual and gender-based violence and discrimination.
Engagement: Collaborate
- Provides expert legal guidance and feedback to the LAC team, global leads, and partners to strengthen program quality and foster a culture of collaboration and mutual learning.
- Builds and maintains relationships with legal institutions, human rights bodies, and partner organizations to advance collective advocacy goals. Demonstrates empathy, inclusivity, and professionalism to promote sustained collaboration.
Delivery: Manage the Project Cycle
- Strategize, plan, and lead legal and advocacy projects, ensuring deliverables meet established timelines, budgets, and strategic outcomes.
- Ensures legal work products, reports, and submissions uphold Equality Now’s quality standards and demonstrate measurable progress toward campaign objectives.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS & TARGET SKILLS PROFILE
- Law degree (LL.B/J.D.) specializing in International Human Rights Law; additional specialization in Criminal, Technology, Family, or Gender and Justice Law preferred.
- Advanced degree (LL.M, Master’s or equivalent certification) strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in international human rights, legal advocacy, or women’s rights law, including demonstrated experience practicing law in Argentina and direct familiarity with Argentine legal systems, courts, and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong academic background in law, international human rights, gender studies, or a closely related discipline - or equivalent professional experience.
- Knowledge of legal frameworks on child marriage, female genital mutilation, and technology-facilitated gender-based violence is an asset.
- Recognized for producing high-quality, innovative legal work.
- Strong verbal and written communication in Spanish and English (required); Portuguese proficiency preferred.
