Food security & Nutrition
Technical Focus 
Support and contribute to (i) providing technical advice to mainstream gender dimensions in the formulation and implementation of FAO regional and country-level projects and programmes, (ii) developing data, knowledge and information on gender gaps and dynamics in the agrifood systems in the region, (iii) raising awareness and building capacities of FAO staff, government counterparts and implementing partners to address gender equality in their respective areas of work.

Tasks and responsibilities
•    Produce data, knowledge and information on the gender gaps and dynamics relevant to FAO’s key priority areas in the region, including food security and nutrition, rural transformation, climate change, and resilience building;
•    Provide technical guidance to the design and undertaking of gender assessments and socio-economic analyses in the agriculture and rural sectors, including to the collection and analysis of primary data;
•    Provide technical support to the adoption and implementation of gender-transformative approaches applicable to agricultural and rural development projects and programmes;
•    Collaborate and provide technical support to FAO country offices and relevant partners on issues related to gender equality and women’s empowerment;
•    Support the production of awareness raising and capacity development materials to enhance the skills of FAO staff, government counterparts and implementing partners on gender issues relevant to agrifood systems and rural transformation;
•    Organize international meetings, workshops, learning events, and regional consultations to influence global debates and policy-making processes;
•    Contribute to the preparation of clear and concise technical reports, website updates, and other communication products in line with the requirements of FAO;
•    Contribute to the documentation and dissemination of success stories, lessons learned and good practices on gender equality and rural women’s empowerment;
•    Perform any other related duties, as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements
•    University degree in gender, social sciences, rural sociology, agriculture economics, anthropology, rural development or other relevant disciplines.
•    At least two years of relevant experience in working on gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment;
•    Working knowledge of English (level C) and limited knowledge (level B) of one of the other FAO official languages (Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese) is required for Consultants. Working knowledge of English Language (level C) is required for PSA.

Technical/Functional Skills 
•    Work experience in more than one location or area of work 
•    Intermediate and working knowledge of Arabic and/or French as a second FAO language will be considered a strong asset.
•    Relevant experience related to the mainstreaming of gender in the design and implementation of projects and programmes, particularly in the field of agriculture, rural development and natural resource management.
•    Proven communication and reporting skills.
