Background
COC Nederland is the oldest still operational LGBTI organisation in the world. Since the 90s we have been working internationally and currently we support the LGBTQI+ movements in over 30 countries around the world. COC provides funding, coaching, training, technical support and access to international networks and intergovernmental bodies. We aim to work in longer term partnerships and work in accordance with our inside out and participatory principles[1] which means our work is informed and led by the needs of our partners
Mapping Funding Landscape
The work of COC is diverse. Besides being one of the largest grant makers to the international LGBTQI+ movement, we offer technical support on a variety of topics including organisational development, safety and security, movement building and brokering, diplomatic and multilateral systems and lobby and advocacy. This is done in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe through our network of more than 300 current and former partners worldwide.
With the growing network of COC Nederland, our partners – ranging from small start-up organisations to large multi-country coalitions – continuously seek new opportunities for support in technical areas and growth of their scope of work. These ventures require support beyond the scope of current funding of COC, either regionally, or thematically.
With the growing network of COC Nederland, our partners – ranging from small start-up organisations to large multi-country coalitions – continuously seek new opportunities for support in technical areas and growth of their scope of work. These ventures require support beyond the scope of current funding of COC, either regionally, or thematically.
As part of our Strategic Plan, we also aim to future-proof our work by exploring more sustainable and strong partnerships that can continue support LGBTIQ+ movements around the world as well as allow COC to grow as an organisation.
To achieve this, we want to diversify and increase our funding reserves, starting with mapping the funding landscape followed by developing a funding strategy for COC’s international work.
Funding approach
After mapping the potential donors, the consultant(s) will develop key next steps based on the promising donors identified, their eligibility criteria, working methods, and approaches to inviting or accepting new partnership with COC:
- Identify entry point for different prospect donors.
- Strategies for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with prospective donors.
- Identify key aspects of our work that match the donor’s interests.
- Identify next steps, including which resources and materials we’ll need, to successfully liaise and develop partnerships with the selected donors.
Profile
We are looking for a consultant to map the funding landscape and assist in developing our next steps:
- Has a strong affinity with the values, mission, working philosophy, and approach of COC Nederland.
- Has a strong record of accomplishments in fundraising from a variety of donors and funding sources.
- Has an extensive network and knowledge of the funding landscape – including beyond the Global North and applicable to non-US based organisations.
- Has experience in developing fundraising and resource mobilisation strategies.
- Has experience with onboarding and retention of donors.
