We advance this by growing support for grassroots feminist action, partnering with communities and organizations to improve conditions, and building diverse leadership and knowledge for sustainable change.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Donor Engagement & Stewardship Communications
• Writer for donor stewardship products such as Annual Report, bi-annual Changemaker donor newsletter, donor updates and more.
• Responsible for content and design of custom donor communications materials (e.g., brochures, pledge cards, banners, event collateral).
Voice, Thought Leadership
• Manage thought leadership opportunities including speechwriting for all Foundation speaking engagements.
Storytelling
• Lead the storytelling strategy across the Foundation (including public engagement and fundraising campaigns).
• Conduct interviews with Foundation grantees, and develop individual impact stories to convey compelling evidence for the Foundation’s support.
• Partner with content producers to commission ethical photography and film to tell the impact of the Foundation’s work.
• Create and manage storytelling library, photography asset bank and consent approvals.
Support media relations
• Support the management of our PR agency who will drive proactive media interest for the Foundation and manage all PR opportunities.
• Support PR agency in reviewing and approving press releases and stories, media pitching, quotes, op-eds.
• Monitor, track and create reports on our media engagement using our media monitoring service Meltwater.
• Assist VP, Public Engagement in crisis communications.
Qualifications and Experience
Education and Experience:
• 5+ years’ experience working in communications and media, ideally in a non-profit environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, writing or related field.
Skills and Abilities:
• A proven track record in designing and implementing successful communications strategies.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships in a diverse, culturally respectful environment.
• Strong storytelling skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with survivors of violence and other program participants in a trauma-informed, non-judgmental and compassionate manner.
• Proven media relations skills.
• Proficiency with media monitoring tools (Meltwater).
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines and perform effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
• Fast learner with a strong ability to grasp new concepts quickly.
• Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all aspects of work.
• Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of current trends and best practices in nonprofit communications and related strategies and tactics.
• Demonstrated ability to write for a donor audience.
• Working knowledge of various methods to measure, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of communications strategies.
• Bilingualism is an asset (English and French).
