Gender-based violence (GBV)
Background
Beginning in January 2025, Together for Girls (TfG) took on the role of Action Lead for the Out of the Shadows Index (OOSI) developed by Economist Impact (EI). In early 2024, TfG commissioned a study through Future Advocacy to understand how individuals and organizations are using the OOSI, the barriers preventing its use, and how it can be improved to become a valuable tool in ending sexual violence against children. Feedback from stakeholder interviews indicated that the index should be, first and foremost, an advocacy tool and not a research tool.

Development of advocacy tools, consultancy - Objective & Responsibilities
Objectives
  • To develop and write a clear set of advocacy tools for a new iteration of the global Out of the Shadows Index, these will include guidance on the use of OOSI indicators in advocacy efforts (i.e. through pre-written resources like advocacy plan templates and draft talking points), and communications and campaigns best practices.
Responsibilities
The consultant/s will specifically deliver the following:
  • After consultation, develop a work plan and timeline for developing the data for advocacy tools and a draft list of tools within the first two weeks of the consultancy.
  • Work with the OOSI Project Manager to understand key elements with the OOSI core team and review and apply key takeaways from consultations with key constituencies (i.e. the OOSI Advisory Group) in the development of the toolkit. Based on these deliberations, produce the proposed structure of the advocacy tools.
  • Write a set of advocacy tools and materials for the OOSI index, to be housed on the website, to enable survivors, activists, CSOs, youth organisations and more, to utilise the data in the index in advocacy efforts to end violence against children, including a focus on ending childhood sexual violence.
  • Considering that the toolkit will be translated into multiple languages (at least French, Spanish, and Swahili), work with the OOSI Project Manager to facilitate a review and feedback process toward the finalization of the toolkit.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with non-profit, UN agencies, or social good organizations.
  • A demonstrated track record of developing advocacy tools and resources for a global audience;
  • Good communication skills, including strong writing skills and familiarity with campaigning communications modalities;
  • Familiarity with the child protection and ending violence against children sectors;
  • Strong project management skills and ability to self-manage and collaborate with a team working in a fast-paced environment;
  • Skill in cross-cultural communication and engaging diverse audiences;
  • Commitment to the values of Together for Girls.
