About GEN VIC
Gender Equity Victoria (GEN VIC) is the peak body for gender equity in Victoria. We represent organisations and individuals working across sectors to advance intersectional gender equality. Our vision is simple yet powerful: a gender-equal society where all people can thrive. We’re a dynamic, values-driven organisation evolving to meet the growing needs of a thriving gender equity movement across the state.
About the Role
As Policy Adviser, you'll lead and deliver high-quality, evidence-informed policy research that advances intersectional gender equity in Victoria. Your primary focus will be managing the Unequal Laws project, which investigates how existing legislation and policy may contribute to gender-based inequalities—ultimately informing GEN VIC’s strategic advocacy platform. This is a research-intensive role that combines deep analytical work with strong stakeholder engagement. You’ll produce clear, influential policy recommendations and collaborate across sectors to drive reform.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage all elements of the Unequal Laws project, including research, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of milestones.
• Conduct in-depth research on gender equity and related policy issues.
• Develop clear, accessible policy papers, advocacy briefs, and position statements.
• Monitor legal, political, and social developments that impact gender equity.
• Collaborate with members, external partners, and government stakeholders.
• Translate complex data and research into concise, actionable insights.
• Facilitate the GEN VIC Advocacy Network to coordinate sector-wide action.
About You You’re an analytical thinker with strong communication skills and a deep commitment to gender justice. You know how to turn complex issues into powerful policy insights and enjoy working collaboratively on projects that make real-world impact. You will bring:
• Demonstrated experience in policy analysis, research, and report writing.
• A deep understanding of the policy-making process, preferably within a social justice or gender-focused context.
• Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with diverse communities and organisations.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously.
• Qualifications in law, social policy, public policy, gender studies or a related field. Bonus Skills (Not Essential):
• Experience working within a peak body or membership-based organisation.
• Existing networks or relationships in the government or policy sector.
• Knowledge of current gender equality frameworks and legal reform processes.
