How this role supports our work

The Senior Adviser – Safeguarding is a subject matter expert supporting Red Cross people to prevent harm to children and vulnerable adults and embed a strong safeguarding culture across all Australian Red Cross operations. The role includes incident triage and management, practitioner support and advice, trend analysis and reporting. Working closely with program delivery teams, the role builds capacity by training and supporting Red Cross people to prevent harm to children and vulnerable adults, promote safety and accountability, and embed quality practices and a Speak Up culture.

What you will do day to day

  • Support the development and implementation of organisation-wide safeguarding and incident management frameworks that promote continuous improvement, harm prevention and ethical practice
  • Triage and ensure effective coordination and quality oversight of internal child, adult client and safeguarding incidents
  • Support and educate program leadership to apply the safeguarding framework and broader risk and incident management processes
  • Identify safeguarding gaps and improvements and support  leaders to develop and monitor effective controls and solutions
  • Develop and deliver safeguarding training programs
  • Prepare reports and briefings for senior leaders, Executive and Board that provide data and insights on incident management and compliance against legislative frameworks such as the Child Safe Principles including recommendations for improvement
  • Develop strong relationships and work collaboratively with leadership teams and program staff to build a culture that prevents harm to children and vulnerable adults
What you will bring

  • Substantial professional experience and technical expertise in statutory child protection and broader child and adult safeguarding
  • Experience working across a broad spectrum of contexts and vulnerable communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Aged Care and humanitarian entrants
  • Proven ability to develop and embed high quality training and development programs for staff and volunteers
  • Substantial experience in the management of safeguarding incidents and an ability to facilitate effective and sustainable solutions
  • Demonstrated capacity to implement systems and processes to provide effective root cause analysis, systemic issue identification, and support continuous improvement
  • Experience analysing data and developing reports for a variety of audiences
A working with children check and/or working with vulnerable people check (or the ability to obtain one) is a mandatory requirement for this role
