Background
The Gender, Climate Change, and Nutrition Integration Initiative (GCAN), implemented in Kenya by the Inclusive Climate Change Adaptation for a Sustainable Africa (ICCASA) with support from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), aims to ensure that agricultural investments, policies, and climate actions fully integrate gender equality, women’s empowerment, and nutrition outcomes.

Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this consultancy is to produce a 10–12-minute high-quality short documentary film titled “Striking the Balance: Voices on Gender, Climate Change, and Nutrition Nexus” along with a 2-minute promotional teaser, script and transcripts, and supplementary visual materials. The film will highlight lived experiences and practical innovations from communities and stakeholders across Kenya that are reshaping agri-food systems to be more inclusive, resilient, and nutrition-sensitive.

Objectives of the Film
The documentary aims to:
• Visually document and amplify gender-transformative responses to climate and nutrition insecurity in Kenya’s agri-food systems.
• Provide a platform for marginalized voices, particularly women, youth, and people with disabilities.
• Serve as an advocacy and capacity-building tool to support GCAN’s objectives.
• Promote knowledge sharing and multi-stakeholder engagement across national and county levels.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

The consultant/production team will:
1. Pre-Production
o Develop a creative brief and filming plan.
o Scriptwriting and storyline development.
o Liaise with ICCASA team to coordinate interviews and field visits.
o Participate in preparatory meetings with stakeholders.

2. Production
o Conduct field filming in Kajiado, Murang’a, Nyamira, and Nairobi.
o Capture interviews with community members, ICCASA staff, government and non-government actors, and other relevant voices.
o Take a minimum of 30 high-resolution photographs from field visits.

3. Post-Production
o Edit and produce a 10–12-minute documentary film.
o Produce a 2-minute social media teaser.
o Add voiceovers, subtitles (English & Kiswahili), and transitions.
o Deliver final film in broadcast-quality and web-optimized formats.
o Submit final script, English and Kiswahili transcripts, and film summary.

Required Qualifications
The consultant or production firm must have:
• Proven experience in producing high-quality short films/documentaries (minimum 3 samples).
• Strong storytelling and visual narrative skills, particularly in development and rights-based programming.
• Experience working with marginalized communities, especially women, youth, and people with disabilities.
• Familiarity with gender equality, climate change, and/or food systems will be an added advantage.
• Excellent command of English and Kiswahili (spoken and written).
