Introduction
The WPS programme in Yemen has leveraged digital media platforms such as Facebook and Yemen based organisation Manasati30’s website to promote women’s participation in peacebuilding, challenge harmful gender norms, and enhance protection for women. This impact assessment complements the end-term evaluation and aims to explore:
- The measurable changes in social norms, behaviours, and attitudes among users
- The extent of engagement with digital spaces as safe, inclusive and reliable digital ecosystems
- The influence of campaigns, content, and moderation strategies in shifting discourse and perception on women’s rights and leadership in peace processes
Research Objectives
- To assess whether digital media interventions contributed to more inclusive, reliable, and safer online civic spaces.
- To determine how digital media intervention strategies influenced:
- Gender norms and behaviours,
- Engagement levels of male allies and powerholders,
- Women’s empowerment and participation.
- To measure the impact of digital campaigns on offline mobilisation and advocacy.
- To track lessons on digital media’s role in feminist peacebuilding.
Objectives of the Assignment
The data collection partner/team will be responsible for implementing fieldwork and ensuring quality and accuracy of the following components:
- Conduct 4 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) in Taiz and Aden.
- Conduct 10 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with stakeholders including journalists, content producers, moderators, campaign designers, powerholders, and activists.
- Administer an online survey targeting 35 to 50 respondents via Manasati30 platforms.
Scope of Work
The selected partner/team will:
- Finalise data collection tools (based on RNW Media’s draft instruments).
- Recruit and train enumerators/facilitators for survey, FGDs, and KIIs.
- Conduct FGDs and ensure accurate documentation.
- Conduct KIIs with targeted stakeholders, ensuring interviews are recorded, transcribed, and summarised in English.
- Administer survey and ensure data completeness.
- Ensure data quality through spot checks, validation, and triangulation.
- Submit clean datasets, transcripts, and summary reports to RNW Media for analysis.
Required Competencies
- Strong skills in data collection methods (surveys, FGDs, KIIs) with proven experience in similar assignments.
- Ability to use digital survey tools (such as KoboToolbox)
- Experience in facilitating FGDs and KIIs, including creating a safe environment, using guiding questions, and recording clear notes or audio.
- The team/consultant must have official authorisation in Aden and Taiz
- Capacity to ensure data quality, including checking for consistency, accuracy, and completeness during collection.
- Good reporting and documentation skills, including writing short summaries of discussions and interviews.
- Strong organisational skills to manage time, logistics, and coordination with participants.
- Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
- Prior experience in research on gender, peacebuilding, or social change is desirable but not mandatory.
- Commitment to ethical standards, safeguarding, and ensuring confidentiality for all participants.
