Traineeship Overview:
We are seeking motivated and social justice-driven trainees to support our upcoming Global Gender and Migration Forum. This opportunity is ideal for early-career professionals or graduate students interested in gaining hands-on experience at the UN and deepening their understanding of the non-profit sector.

Description:

This traineeship introduces to the work of the Center for Migration, Gender, and Justice (CMGJ), a non-profit NGO with UN Consultative Status.

in preparation for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), and CMGJ’s biannual Global Gender and Migration Forum (GGMF), upon which preparation and organization is set to address the 2026 International Migration Review Forum to monitor and evaluate the gender-responsive implementation of the Global Compact for Migration. 

Trainees will have the opportunity to be part of the delegation representing CMGJ at the CSW. Being a part of CMGJ’s delegation includes: access to high-level meetings at the UN, making oral and written statements at such events, and organizing side events. Additionally, through this traineeship, participants will have opportunities to network and advocate at the global stage. As part of this delegation, trainees can attend the CSW either in-person or remote to engage with other CSW attendees, participate in events, and advocate for CMGJ’s mission and vision. To prepare, the traineeship will have an intensive advocacy education component from January through March. 

The main component of the traineeship is organizing and implementing CMGJ’s biannual Global Gender, and Migration Forum. The Global Gender and Migration Forum (GGMF) is developed, organized, and launched by the Center for Migration, Gender, and Justice. The GGMF provides a platform to address the challenges and needs of women*, girl, LGBTQIA+, and gender diverse migrants, and consists of a series of events that focus on the intersection of migration and gender across various policy areas. The objectives of the GGMF are to assess the state of migration and gender, to explore gender-responsiveness and migrant-inclusion in varied policy areas, to build partnerships and collaboration around the intersection of migration and gender, and to share practices and develop recommendations from the local to the global level. 


Organization: The traineeship combines remote and in-person components. Trainees are required to be in-person for the GGMF, and to be available to observe and participate at the CSW with one trainee per role:

Eligibility: 
  • Open to migrant youth (21-35 years old) 
  • Must be in-person in New York City in May 2026 (exact dates TBD)
  • Language: The traineeship will be conducted in English; applicants with proficiency in addition to English are strongly encouraged to apply.
