Purpose for the job:

Under the supervision of the Chief of HIV/AIDS, Adolescent Development and Gender, the Gender Programme Specialist support sectoral teams through advice and direct engagement throughout the programming cycle by enhancing sectoral teams’ knowledge, capacity and strategies to meet their accountabilities for GAP3 results. The Gender Programme Specialist will be directly involved in the design, implementation, and monitoring of sector-specific gender programmes, and advise colleagues across the different sections to identify strategies and methods that will enable the integration of gender results and build further capacity of colleagues to incorporate gender equality into their own areas of work.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:
  • Education: Advanced University Degree (master’s degree) in the Social Sciences (gender studies, sociology, demography, psychology, political science, international development, social policy, economics) or another field relevant to the sector.        
  • Work Experience: Minimum five years of progressively responsible professional experience and demonstrated track record of having undertaken and led substantive programming and research on gender and adolescence and development, including in key issue areas that are the focus of UNICEF’s Gender Action Plan. 
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables:
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
  • Academic credentials in gender and adolescents are a strong asset.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, managing, and delivering results-based programmes/projects on gender, adolescent development and participation or any other cross cutting programme, especially at country/field level.
