ABOUT CHOICE CHOICE
for Youth and Sexuality (CHOICE) is a professional youth-led organization that advocates for the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of young people globally. CHOICE’s vision is that all young people have the power to make decisions about their sexual, reproductive & love lives! We firmly believe that young people should be able to make informed and personal decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health. Moreover, it is our core conviction that young people should participate meaningfully in decisions, policies and programs that affect their lives, in particular related to their SRHR. We mutually strengthen the capacity of young people and youth-led organizations, supporting them to be leaders and change-makers.
ABOUT THE BOARD
The Board is the governing body of CHOICE and has the final responsibility over the organization development, continuity and monitoring of the long-term strategic plan. The board shares the vision of CHOICE and carries this vision out, both externally and internally.
Board Members are hired for a term of two years, with possible renewal. The Board is based in the Netherlands and is composed of Dutch and non-Dutch members. This provides a good balance in representation, while also being able to engage with the Dutch political and legal context. Normally, the board consists of a Chairperson, a Secretary, a Treasurer, and one or two General Board Members.
About the secretary position:
After the Chair, the Secretary is the second person legally representing the organisation. The secretary and chair closely support the Executive Director, both with formal responsibilities, and by being a sounding board, giving guidance, and offering a listening ear in regular check-ins. While the Chair leads the board, the Secretary helps make sure the board runs smoothly and that decisions are well-organised and transparent.
Some of the key tasks include:
- Preparing meeting agendas, taking and sharing clear minutes (notes)
- Updating and reminding the board of tasks and action points
- Making sure the organisation follows its legal and reporting obligations, such as for the CBF, KVK and other formal institutions
- Keeping track of important documents and ensuring our folders and history remain well organised and continues knowledge and lessons from past work, so the board stays consistent even when people change.
