Equality Federation is an advocacy accelerator rooted in social justice, building power in our network of state-based lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) advocacy organizations.
What We Need
This role is essential to reaching our aggressive goals and objectives. The Development Director leads the design, execution, and evaluation of Equality Federation’s multi-year fundraising strategies, ensuring alignment with both current and future budgetary growth goals.
The Development Director integrates our organizational values in our fundraising strategy by modeling and upholding our Ethical Fundraising Policy. The Development
Director proactively communicates fundraising projections to inform organizational planning. They also work collaboratively across departments to ensure effective
resourcing for current programs and future initiatives, aligning development efforts with programmatic priorities.
Finally, the Development Director leads a high-performing team of two full-time staff and supported by external consultants, coaching team members to deepen
engagement with major donors, expand corporate partnerships, and cultivate
- foundation support—driving sustainable revenue growth across all giving streams.
Position Required Qualifications:
Experience:
● 5-7 years of experience in a senior level development role
● 2 years of experience as a supervisor, ideally in a nonprofit or advocacy setting with a $5M-$10M operating budget
● Applicants must demonstrate a track record of growing a development department to meet an organization’s evolving budget needs Must-Have Skills and Competencies:
● Proven ability to prepare, brief, and support executive and senior staff for funder meetings, conferences, and public events
● Experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams
● Skilled in managing departmental and program budgets
● Experience fostering collaboration across teams and departments
● Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
● Sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
● Deep commitment to LGBTQ+ equality, social justice, and inclusive movement-building
● Demonstrated use of racial equity frameworks to guide strategy and decision-making
● Ability to travel up to 20%
