 Role Outline

 As Public Affairs Lead, you will develop our engagement with policymakers, parliamentarians, and government officials. You’ll shape and deliver our public affairs plan, driving systemic change on violence against women and girls' issues and ensuring survivors’ voices are heard at the highest levels.

Key Accountabilities
• Develop and implement a proactive public affairs plan aligned with our organisational goals, working closely with colleagues in the team
• Build and maintain relationships with MPs, Peers, civil servants, and other key stakeholders.
• Monitor political developments, identifying influencing opportunities, and provide timely analysis, advice and briefings to internal teams.
• Design and organise an impactful programme of events and roundtables, managing the events budget to ensure maximum impact
• Draft high-quality policy briefings, consultation responses, and correspondence on priority areas
• Work closely with media and communications colleagues to ensure coordinated external messaging and advocacy
• Support colleagues across Refuge working on partnerships with strategic insight and advice
• Work closely with Survivor Engagement Team and with survivors to ensure messaging effectively communicates survivors’ experiences and to create and facilitate opportunities for survivors to influence decision makers directly • Monitor and evaluate the impact of public affairs activity and adapt plans accordingly to deliver on our strategic objectives.
• Developing and maintaining positive, collaborative working relationships with other Refuge staff.
• Enhancing personal capability by undertaking continuous personal development activity and maintaining up to date knowledge.
• Ensuring that the confidentiality and security of information is maintained in accordance with our Confidentiality, Data Protection, IT and Security policies.
• Promoting sustainable working practices and reducing the environmental impact of Refuge’s work.
• Demonstrating an understanding of and commitment to  Refuge’s values and to equity, equality, diversity and inclusion.

 Knowledge, Experience and Skills 
• Proven experience in public affairs, parliamentary engagement, or political advisory roles. 
• Strong understanding of UK political systems and legislative processes. 
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure in a fast-changing environment 
• Excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills. • Ability to translate complex policy issues into compelling advocacy messages. 
• Strategic thinker with a proactive and collaborative approach. 
• Strong interpersonal skills and political judgement, with the ability to build trust stakeholders at all levels 
• An interest in and commitment to the long-term success and development of Refuge. 
• Acts as a role model for the organisation. 
• Acts with integrity and shows a commitment to upholding professional standards. 
• Demonstrates a commitment to follow Refuge’s policies and procedures. 
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to Refuge’s values and principles including equality, diversity and inclusion. 
• Good standard of general education or equivalent experience.
