Organisational Background
WO=MEN Dutch Gender Platform is a vibrant membership-based network in the Netherlands composed of individuals and organisations committed to achieving gender equality and promoting women’s rights worldwide. For nearly two decades, WO=MEN has actively participated in CSW processes and currently plays a key role in shaping civil society’s involvement within Dutch official CSW delegations.

In collaboration with partners through the Our Voices Our Futures (OVOF) consortium—including CREA, APC, UHAI-EASHRI, and IM-Defensoras—WO=MEN supports structurally silenced communities to amplify their voices and expand their political agency.

About the Assignment
The CSW is a key annual global event where governments and civil society come together to review progress and challenges in the implementation of gender equality. While the Netherlands has developed a relatively inclusive process for civil society engagement in CSW, similar efforts in other countries are often undocumented or poorly understood.

This research aims to map and document diverse civil society engagement models around the world, highlight good or promising practices, and generate lessons that can be used to strengthen advocacy efforts at the CSW and other multilateral forums.

The selected Researcher will work closely with WO=MEN’s Program Manager International Processes to produce a high-quality, accessible report, based on mixed-methods research and engagement with global feminist networks.

Key Responsibilities
Design and implement a structured research plan, including key milestones and methodologies
Conduct a global mapping of civil society engagement in CSW processes, with a focus on the interaction between civil society and national delegations
Identify and document five good or promising practices, including the Dutch model (WO=MEN will support with contacts and background)
Ensure geographic and demographic diversity in the selection of case studies
Draft an accessible, non-academic research report (maximum 20 pages) presenting:
Main findings from the mapping
Detailed write-ups of the five case studies (1–2 pages each)
Key recommendations to strengthen civil society engagement in CSW processes
Maintain regular contact with WO=MEN to ensure progress and alignment

Profile of the Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will bring the following experience and skills:

  • Proven research and writing experience, particularly in international and digital settings
  • Strong familiarity with UN CSW processes, either through participation or research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages (Dutch, French, Spanish) are an asset
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines independently
  • Comfort working remotely and using online collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Workspace)
  • Cultural sensitivity and a strong commitment to feminist and inclusive research practices
