Organizational Setting
The Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division (ESP) coordinates Programme Priority Areas on gender equality, rural women's empowerment and inclusive rural transformation. The Division works with Members and other partners to achieve resilient and inclusive rural livelihoods for people on conditions of vulnerability, reduce gender inequalities and advance women's economic empowerment and promote people-centred climate action and equitable access to natural resources.
Key Functions
The Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division (ESP) coordinates Programme Priority Areas on gender equality, rural women's empowerment and inclusive rural transformation. The Division works with Members and other partners to achieve resilient and inclusive rural livelihoods for people on conditions of vulnerability, reduce gender inequalities and advance women's economic empowerment and promote people-centred climate action and equitable access to natural resources.
Key Functions
- Researches and analyses [agricultural, economic, trade, market, social, environmental, nutrition/food composition and/or gender related] data, statistics and information to provide technical, statistical and/or policy related information and analysis to support the delivery of economic and social development programmes work, products, projects, publications and services.
- Produces a variety of technical reports and input for technical documents, Stream publications and/or web pages.
- Provides technical, statistical, and/or analytical services on various studies, projects, and/or assessments and provides technical backstopping to field projects.
- Participates in the development of improved/updated technical, statistical and/or analytical tools, methodologies, systems, databases, and/or key social/ economic/ environmental/ nutritional and/or early warning indicators, etc. for gender programming.
- Participates in multidisciplinary teams, collaborates with other streams and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices.
- Participates in resource mobilization activities.
Specific Functions
- Conducts research, policy analysis and leads the development of technical reports to shape the narrative on gender equality and women's empowerment in agrifood system transformation, including by identifying and supporting with filling data gaps.
- Supports the development and coordination of programmes that provide support to Member Nations in 1) integrating gender equality and women's empowerment within national policies and programmes; 2) building capacities on gender methodologies and approaches, including gender-responsive and gender-transformative approaches; 3) filling existing gender data gaps; and 4) directing finance to initiative that focus on the empowerment of women in agrifood systems.
- Represents FAO and supports the development of strategic partnerships to position FAO vis-à-vis the international development community to demonstrate its leadership and technical expertise on gender in the various technical areas of the Organization's mandate.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with internal actors to enhance FAO's work on gender equality and women's empowerment.
- Supports and manages teams, including identifying, recruiting and supervising consultants and interns at headquarters and country level.
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree in social sciences, rural sociology, gender studies, rural development, social anthropology, or other relevant social sciences.
- Five years of relevant experience in socio-economic analysis, policy formulation, programme development and implementation, capacity building in relation to gender equality in agrifood systems.
- Working knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).
