Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:
  • Management of financial accounts, ensuring that the balance sheet is fully reconciled on a monthly basis through preparing reconciliations for more complex accounts and supporting the Finance Officer to complete reconciliations for remaining accounts.
  • Be proactive in ensuring the smooth running of the finance function, anticipating and resolving issues in a timely manner and ensuring suppliers are paid correctly and on-time. 

Statutory Accounts and Audit

  • With support from the Director of Finance (SCO), prepare statutory accounts and accompanying notes. Lead on co-ordination of annual audit from planning stage to close out. Lead on co-ordination of donor specific audits taking place within the UK, liaising with external auditors and supporting grant management team to deliver all requirements of the audit.

Annual Budgeting and Forecasting
  • With support from the Finance Manager (UK & DE) and Director of Finance (SCO), lead on coordination of annual budget and forecasting cycle for WfWI-UK, setting and communicating timetables; supporting budget holders with their budget planning; scrutinising budget submissions for reasonableness and accuracy and preparing consolidation.
  • Analyse consolidation against agreed KPIs and ratios and prepare papers for the Managing Director and Finance Director (SCO) to review and discuss.

 Board and Committee Reporting
  • Preparation of Management Accounts for circulation to Finance and Audit Committee.
  • Preparation of Budget Analysis and supporting commentary for submission to Finance and Audit Committee annually.
 
Processes and Systems 
  • With support from the Director of Finance (SCO), ensure that WFWI-UK’s financial policies and procedures, and internal controls are observed and reviewed regularly recommending and implementing a more efficient and effective solution when necessary.
  • With support from the Director of Finance (SCO), develop systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective management of the organisation’s finances.

GSC Month and Year End close
  • Coordinate with GSC finance to record and reconcile intercompany transactions between Germany, UK and US.
  • Member of the global audit team to assist in coordinating timely submission of audit schedules and samples as will be assigned.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as may be required. 

Skills Knowledge and Expertise
  • Part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA; or studying towards qualification or relevant experience.
  • Sound knowledge of UK Charity SORP and charity sector financial practices.
  • A critical eye for reviewing accounting transactions and ensuring accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, SUMIF, and VLOOKUP) and good working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with staff, funders, trustees, and suppliers.
  • A self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Excellent organisation, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Confidence in mentoring and sharing knowledge to support others’ professional development.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a solution-focused approach.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deal with an unpredictable workload.
