This post is located within the Gender Advisory Section in the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The position is based in Tripoli, Libya (Tripoli is classified as a Hardship "E" duty station and a non-family duty station). The incumbent will be under the overall supervision of the Senior Gender Affairs Officer.
The Gender Advisory Section of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, provides assistance to Libyan women and the Government Institutions by way of promoting the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1325 (2000) on Women, Peace and Security. The work of the Unit is in support of the mission’s mandate, by “recognizing the need to protect women, women’s rights organizations, and women peacebuilders from threats and reprisals, and supporting the efforts of UNSMIL to facilitate wider engagement and participation of women from across the spectrum of Libyan society in the political process and public institutions, recognizing that the political process should be inclusive of all Libyans, Security Council Resolution 2647 (2022).

Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Assistant Gender Affairs Officer at this level will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Assists the Gender Advisory Team with implementing a mission-wide action plan, as appropriate;
- Assist in the delivery of appropriate training for different level of personnel where required;
- Assist with the preparation and submission of timely reporting and documentation on gender, including quarterly report;
- Support and document the collection of good practices and lessons learned on gender equality;
- Assist in the development of talking points, speeches and other written materials on gender equality and the advancement of Libyan Women.
- Collect and independently analyze information pertaining to gender equality and the advancement of Libyan women in the economic, social, security and political fields from a variety of sources including reports by media, government, national and international organizations.
- Preparing and/or reviewing documents and revising as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Education

Education
A recognized first-level university degree in sociology, law, economics, political or social sciences is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in policy development and/or program implementation related to gender equality, child-rights, or women’s rights is required.
Knowledge of international framework on gender equality and women’s rights including knowledge on UNSCR 1325 and the Women, Peace and Security agenda, Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the international legal framework related to gender is desirable.
Relevant experience working in the United Nations Common System and/or other national/international organizations on gender mainstreaming, analysis, and promoting gender equality is desirable.
Knowledge of international framework on gender equality and women’s rights including knowledge on UNSCR 1325 and the Women, Peace and Security agenda, Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the international legal framework related to gender is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English and Arabic is required.
