Generic (e.g. 'gender focal point' role
The Coordinator will undertake the following specific responsibilities.
Programme coordination and evidence-based programme design and implementation
- Support the revision of the Customized Gender Mainstreaming Toolkit for different IGAD divisions.
- Support in development of capacity building plan and undertake capacity building activities on institutional gender transformation and gender mainstreaming in programmatic interventions based on the customized gender mainstreaming tools and other available regional documents.
- Mobilize the requisite political will to achieve gender equality and equity at national and regional levels.
- Integrate gender perspectives in program/project planning processes of all IGAD divisions, specialized and other offices covering all thematic areas in IGAD’s Regional Strategy, including the analysis of problems, identification of solutions, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies, programs, and projects.
- Use gender and sex-disaggregated data as well as qualitative information to show how key development challenges in the region affect women and men differently; and how solutions impact on them.
- Advocate for increasing the number of women in decision-making positions within IGAD Structures.
- Equip decision-makers, program managers, experts and other key IGAD personnel with essential and appropriate gender analytical tools, skills, and knowledge on Gender Management System (GMS).
- Build networks and linkages between IGAD institutions and key stakeholders to ensure coordination of efforts and resources for GMS.
- Support the establishment and roll out the IGAD Gender Management System.
Programme monitoring, reporting and evaluation
- Coordinate annual work plan monitoring, reviews, and reporting.
- Develop periodic and donor narrative and financial reports on the overall programme implementation.
- Monitor programme implementation, identify challenges and advise the Gender Affairs team for evidence-based decisions.
- Support programme evaluation in collaboration with IGAD planning and monitoring units and the lead of this program.
Knowledge sharing and documentation
- Participate in regional and global agenda setting meetings representing IGAD Gender Affairs.
- Document and share knowledge on best practices regionally and globally and adopt global and regional best practices for an evidence-based programming on gender equality and women empowerment.
Provide technical support to the development of strategic partnerships and resource mobilization efforts
- Identify opportunities to secure additional resources for Gender Affairs Programme and liaise with relevant actors, as appropriate including providing recommendations on positioning with potential donors, timely follow-up, and support, as required.
- Provide technical support to the preparation of funding proposals, in liaison with the IGAD Gender Manager and programme staff as relevant
Education Qualifications and Exprience
- At least a master’s degree in social science, Law, Gender or other relevant fields
- At least 10 years proven experiences in gender equality and women empowerment.
- Experience in international and multilateral organizations.
- Experience in programme management and coordination gender related programmes
Language requirements
Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French is an added advantage
