Job Overview / Summary:
The Adolescent Girls Senior Specialist/Advisor will be responsible for an evolving body of work on the safety and empowerment of adolescent girls. They will lead strategy development relevant to VPRU’s adolescent girls work, lead business development, lead coordination and engagement with other IRC sectors and external organizations on adolescent girls work and provide technical oversight to this body of work.
Technical Support and Program Implementation
• Leads/supports the direct implementation of specific global projects with a focus on adolescent girls
• Provide technical capacity development on programming for adolescent girls, with a specific focus on the Girl Shine approach.
• Support the VPRU Country Support team in delivering remote or in-person technical assistance on the functions of adolescent girl program design, business development and technical capacity building of country programs as appropriate
• Adapt and develop new tools and resources for adolescent girls’ safety and empowerment based on country requests and gaps
• Lead the monthly Girl Shine Community of Practice
Learning and Impact
• Work with the VPRU MEAL team and IRC’s research and Innovations department to document evidence and learning on Girl Shine
• Keep up to date with latest learning on adolescent girls’ safety and empowerment to help inform business development, program quality and technical support
• Promote the importance of working with adolescent girls through case studies, learning documents, short articles, and blogs both for internal and external platforms
• Work closely with advocacy colleagues on adolescent girl events e.g. International Day of the Girl, 16 Days of Activism
• In line with VPRU work on anti-racism and decoloniality, propose strategies to enable more active participation from adolescent girls in program development and decision-making processes e.g. through adolescent girls advisory group, mentorship alliance etc.
Business Development
• Contribute to /lead proposal development for the adolescent girl safety and empowerment portfolio
• Maintain an up-to-date portfolio of project ideas (i.e. concept notes)
• Work across VPRU to ensure adolescent girls are meaningfully represented, where relevant, across business development proposals
• Identify funding opportunities and partnerships for adolescent girls’ safety and empowerment
Strategy Development
• Promote the successes and impact of Girl Shine within IRC through internal advocacy and external representation
• Take stock of adolescent girls work within VPRU to date and consult with key internal stakeholders on developing a VPRU vison for the work moving forward
• Engage with other sectors and internal actors (including Education, Livelihoods and Health), towards the goal of providing holistic responses to adolescent girls’ safety and empowerment needs.
• Engage with relevant stakeholders working with adolescent girls and represent VPRU in relevant working groups
• Participate in VPRU project teams to strengthen lens on adolescent girls
• Support the development of VPRU’s model for women’s participation, leadership and movement building so that it is inclusive of adolescent girls and young women.
• Develop Girl Shine/adolescent girl champions and leaders from country teams currently implementing Girl Shine, to be better equipped to provide regional technical support
