Job Description
Key Responsibilities

● Lead our equalities law cases - assisting, by advising or representing or instructing counsel
● Proactively source equalities law cases that speak to Good Law Project’s values, irrespective of ability to pay
● Contribute to building Good Law Project’s reputation in the field
● Cultivate strong relationships with activist clients, offering empathetic and transparent communication throughout the
legal process
● Conduct thorough legal research, analyse evidence, and formulate robust legal strategies to safeguard the rights of our clients
● Build relationships with specialist Counsel. Instruct Counsel where appropriate
● Work with the communications/campaigns teams at Good Law Project to ensure that the organisation’s broader interests in the selection of claimants, and its communications about the cases, sit appropriately alongside the duties you owe to your clients
● Stay abreast of changes in equalities law ensuring the highest level of legal advice for our clients
● Supervise and allocate work to more junior solicitors, trainees and paralegals and provide feedback and support to them as appropriate.
● Carry out such other management tasks as may reasonably be required

What we’re Looking for
Essential Experience

● Excellent lawyer
● Qualification as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales
● Five years post qualification experience as a solicitor or barrister with a specialism in equalities law
● Experience of working with internal stakeholders and external partners, including instructing Counsel or external Solicitors where necessary
● A good understanding of legal risk and how to manage it
● Interest in social change and how the law can be used to deliver it
● Committed to GLP’s vision of what a better world looks like
Desirable Experience
● Political or campaigning acuity
● Experience of working on legal campaigns, communications, or fundraising efforts in a legal or advocacy organisation
● Experience of or interest in public interest law
● Experience of working within a fast-paced, innovative legal environment
