You would be responsible for:

  1. Supporting SEI in reviewing, defining, assessing, and scaling up evidence-based GBV prevention initiatives.
  2. Supporting MSSI in establishing and strengthening a comprehensive GBV case management system in Timor-Leste.
  3. Supporting MSSI in the development and operationalization of a national hotline/helpline for violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC).
  4. Supporting SEI in enhancing coordination, monitoring, and evaluation mechanisms for the effective implementation of the NAP-GBV.

Qualifying for an Internship

All interns must meet the following educational and other eligibility requirements:

Educational requirements

Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree of master’s programme;

Other eligibility requirements

  • Demonstrate interest in the field of development;
  • Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in at least one of the working languages of the United Nations (English) and fluency in the official language (English) of the UNFPA office; and
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.

Your Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Gender and Women studies, Development Studies, Social Science or be enrolled in a postgraduate degree of master’s programme in the above-mentioned.

Your Experiences:

  1. Some experience in working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity.
  2. Previous experience of working in GBV prevention and response.
  3. Excellent track record in supporting local and INGOs and/or government institutions in the areas of GBV prevention and response, M&E and coordination.
  4. Fluency in English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
  5. Strong analytical and writing skills.
  6. Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern will gain the following knowledge assets:

  1. Increased understanding of the UNFPA and the Programme Division within UNFPA
  2. Understand the UNFPA mandate and policies, including regional set-up
  3. Understand and familiarize with UNFPA Governance and Executive Board 
  4. Understand UNFPA programme design and delivery mechanisms
  5. Understand the dynamics of operational and programme support and communications to the field, and at the level of CO
  6. Learn UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms
  7. Write and formulate substantive documents
  8. Network with UN colleagues
  9. Work experience as a team member in a multicultural setting
