Gender-based violence (GBV)

You would be responsible for:
- Supporting SEI in reviewing, defining, assessing, and scaling up evidence-based GBV prevention initiatives.
- Supporting MSSI in establishing and strengthening a comprehensive GBV case management system in Timor-Leste.
- Supporting MSSI in the development and operationalization of a national hotline/helpline for violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC).
- Supporting SEI in enhancing coordination, monitoring, and evaluation mechanisms for the effective implementation of the NAP-GBV.
Qualifying for an Internship
All interns must meet the following educational and other eligibility requirements:
Educational requirements
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree of master’s programme;
Other eligibility requirements
- Demonstrate interest in the field of development;
- Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in at least one of the working languages of the United Nations (English) and fluency in the official language (English) of the UNFPA office; and
- Demonstrate ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
Your Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Gender and Women studies, Development Studies, Social Science or be enrolled in a postgraduate degree of master’s programme in the above-mentioned.
Your Experiences:
- Some experience in working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity.
- Previous experience of working in GBV prevention and response.
- Excellent track record in supporting local and INGOs and/or government institutions in the areas of GBV prevention and response, M&E and coordination.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.

- Increased understanding of the UNFPA and the Programme Division within UNFPA
- Understand the UNFPA mandate and policies, including regional set-up
- Understand and familiarize with UNFPA Governance and Executive Board
- Understand UNFPA programme design and delivery mechanisms
- Understand the dynamics of operational and programme support and communications to the field, and at the level of CO
- Learn UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms
- Write and formulate substantive documents
- Network with UN colleagues
- Work experience as a team member in a multicultural setting
