Movement building
WoMin is looking to employ an experienced, passionate womxn who explicitly identifies as feminist, has supported and stood with movements of dispossessed people (especially womxn), and holds a radical vision and practice that goes beyond conventional mainstream liberal and gender mainstream thinking. This post gives leadership to WoMin’s African Ecofeminist Development Alternatives programme which aims to document, research, propose and support campaigning for African Ecofeminist Development Alternatives as a counter to the dominant extractivist model of development, implemented by the WoMin African Alliance with partners and allies across the continent.

The successful candidate will:
  • Support Ecofeminist Dialogues to Dream and Imagine a different community, society and Africa at the local, national, regional and continental scales.
  • Lead the AEDA programme and contribute to the wider organisation’s internal processes and projects as required by the long-term strategy, plans and leadership needs.
  • Concretely support the ‘YES’ in deepening resistance efforts.
  • Advance the protection of The Commons as key component of the Alternatives.
  • Build, recognise and advance ‘living’ African Ecofeminist Development Alternatives.
The profile of the candidate:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ working and activist experience in some or all the areas of responsibility outlined in the job profile. It is essential that the person carries a strong feminist identity and has proven experience of work to advance womxn’s rights through struggles. Experience in the building of information materials for community activists, and an ability to design and facilitate political and popular/feminist formation work is critical. They should be able to evidence their contributions to building networks and platforms of convergence with a wide range of allies and partners and should have between 2-3 years’ experience in campaigns building and advocacy. We actively look for someone who has some experience of programmes/projects development, management, and coordination, and can write reports, concept notes and proposals. They should have the ability to work in a team, meet deadlines, problem-solve with others, and work with full accountability to peers, alliance members and local movements/formations.

Personal qualities we seek:
The successful candidate will have a participatory and democratic leadership style but be able to act decisively and firmly when needed. They should have an ability to work under pressure and be willing to work beyond official working hours. The person should be self-motivated and be able to take initiative. They will also be organised and accurate and have high integrity and respect for confidentiality. Above all, the successful candidate will have a powerful commitment to social justice and identify as a feminist who links womxn’s oppression to capitalism and colonialism.
