Organizational Setting
The main aim of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO’s) Representation in Egypt, which is headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist the government of Egypt to develop policies, programmes and projects to improve food security and nutrition, promote sustainable agricultural development, reduce rural poverty, develop inclusive agri-food systems and strengthen livelihood resilience – in line with the Organization’s Strategic Objectives and United Nations’ global and Government of Egypt’s national Sustainable Development Goals.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Conduct a gender analysis to identify the differential needs, constraints, capacities, priorities of women and men targeted by the project and ensuring integration of the recommendations into the project in ongoing manner.
• Implement the project deliverables according to the Project’s Gender Strategy, under the supervision of the Project Manager and the guidance of the Lead technical officer
• Coordinate with experts to review the curricula of the Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and Farmer Business Schools (FBS) and ensure that the technical information is gender responsive and compliant with quality standards.
• Provide technical support to the project team to ensure the mainstreaming of gender into project activities and project management tools, including tracking of gender equality results and gender-sensitive analysis of data collected.
• Follow-up with the facilitators’ team to ensure application of FAO methodology and gender strategy to FFS and FBS, formulation and accomplishment of training plans, identification of training venues, timely conduction of FBS trainings.
• Organize exchange visits to showcase good examples of business opportunities for women (e.g. agri-food companies, postharvest/value addition facilities, modern market outlets, etc.).
• Develop tools and methodologies to monitor gender impacts and outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide visual and written materials needed for visibility and documentation of success stories and project expected results and showcase the project gendered impact on women.
• Collect gender and age disaggregated data on socioeconomic, environment/Climate Change and agrobiodiversity issues, highlighting any existing gender gap or inequality in the project 36 villages that can have implications on the project
• Support the production of awareness raising and capacity development materials to enhance the skills of the project staff, government counterparts and implementing partners on gender issues relevant to agrifood systems and rural transformation;.
• Any other duties related to the incumbent’s field of experience, as required.
• Provide any other relevant technical assistance needed;
• Maintain the communication with the project staff for any advice could be raised;
Minimum Requirements
• An advanced university degree gender in social sciences, rural sociology, agriculture economics, anthropology, rural development or other relevant disciplines
• At least 2 years of working on gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment especially in development contexts such as agriculture, climate change, rural development or food security
