Background:
Generation Gender (GenG) is a coalition dedicated to addressing gender inequality and combating gender-based violence (GBV) through intersectional, inclusive, and transformative advocacy. Our approach amplifies women’s voices, highlights marginalized perspectives, and promotes safety and security in all activities. This consultancy aims to advance GenG’s storytelling and visibility during the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and beyond.
Purpose of the Consultancy:
GenG seeks an experienced Consultant (individual or a Consulting firm) to:
- Strengthen the consortium’s unified voice within the Beijing+30 process and create online spaces for activists to share their stories, ensuring inclusivity, in particular for those unable to attend CSW.
- Promote advocacy efforts on the evolution of GBV, highlighting how it has shapeshifted over the years and examining both emerging forms of GBV and persistent challenges.
- Highlight the work of women’s rights organizations in addressing new and emerging forms of GBV and leverage learnings from the GenG program to reflect on progress, setbacks, and effective responses, using these insights to drive advocacy around key questions: "How far have we come?", "What went wrong?", and "What did we do right?”.
Objectives:
- Develop a joint social media campaign and implementation plan to boost visibility during CSW.
- Produce a storytelling series (videos and/or podcasts) focusing on emerging forms of GBV and the resistance efforts of women’s rights organizations over the last three years of the program.
- Create Social Media Posts for Instagram and Youtube to share campaign content.
Scope of Work:
The consultant will closely coordinate with the GenG steering committee, the Rutgers Senior Advocacy Officer, other advocacy officers, and program officers across partner countries in:
- Messaging and Content Creation
- Workshops and Capacity Building
- Storytelling Production (Videos/Podcasts)
- Social Media Campaign
- Documentation
Deliverables:
- At least three workshops with partners to gather and refine storytelling materials.
- A storytelling series (video and/or podcast), featuring structured narratives and drafted scripts that highlight emerging forms of GBV and organizational resistance efforts.
- A curated collection of ready-to-use social media and storytelling materials (videos or podcasts).
- A joint social media campaign with a clear implementation plan.
- A final report summarizing key outcomes, learnings, and recommendations.
Required Skills and Experience:
- At least 7 years of professional experience in content creation, social media and civil society communication, preferably in the Global South.
- Demonstrated experience in creating social media content, especially for Instagram and/or X (Twitter), as well as experience with new media executions, preferably with a non-government organisation
- Proven experience with graphic design, ability to create designs for digital media purposes in open-source graphic design programmes, such as Canva, preferably in development contexts.
- Strong storytelling and content creation skills across various media.
- Experience working on women’s rights and GBV-related projects.
- Previous work with international organizations is an asset.
- Fluency in written and spoken English; proficiency in Arabic and/or French would be an asset.
