Gender training
Gender-based violence (GBV)
Who is WHISE?
WHISE is the regional women’s health service for the Southern Metropolitan Region. WHISE is a not-for-profit organisation that focuses on empowering women.
Project background
Little evidence exists to demonstrate the incidence and drivers of workplace gendered violence in Victorian Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). The little evidence that does exist is limited and does not provide the full picture. For instance,
1. The data only includes employees so we do not know the experience of students.
2. It is limited to TAFEs and therefore, does not includes other RTOs such as adult and community education providers.
3. We do not know the prevalence of gendered violence among students when they are engaged in worksite training (i.e., apprenticeship).
Purpose of the position
Working under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer and the Evidence and Policy Lead, the Senior Research Officer will play a pivotal role in the “Are We Training for Respect?” project by leading the quantitative analysis of survey data and contributing to the preparation of the research report. This position aims to generate evidence on the incidence and drivers of workplace gendered violence in Victorian RTOs. The role requires a strong understanding of quantitative research methods, data interpretation, and report writing, along with the ability to adapt to additional tasks such as supporting the preparation of a literature review.
Key responsibilities
Survey analysis and report writing:
• Conduct robust quantitative analysis of survey data using appropriate statistical tools and methods.
• Interpret findings to provide actionable insights into the incidence and drivers of workplace gendered violence.
• Co-author a comprehensive and accessible research report, integrating quantitative findings with contextual evidence. Collaboration and communication:
• Work with project stakeholders, including WHISE and collaborating organisations.
• Attend weekly team meetings and provide progress updates.
• Present preliminary findings to internal and external stakeholders as required.
Research support:
• Assist with the preparation and review of a literature review related to workplace gendered violence in RTOs. • Contribute to the development of recommendations and strategies based on survey f findings.
Additional duties:
• Manage project-related deliverables and adhere to strict deadlines.
• Manage other project-related tasks, such as drafting presentations.
• Ensure ethical and rigorous research practices are adhered to throughout the project.
Essential criteria
• Proven experience in quantitative data analysis, including the use of statistical software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R).
• Ability to interpret and communicate statistical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Strong writing skills with experience in drafting research reports or publications.
• A postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as public health, psychology, or data science.
• Familiarity with gender equity, or gender-based violence prevention research.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in research ethics and confidentiality protocols.
