This position is located within the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba. Juba is classified in the "E" category and as a non-family duty station. The Gender Affairs Officer will report to the Senior Gender Officer.
Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, the Gender Affairs Officer will be responsible for performing the following duties:
• Supports the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security and the DPKO/DFS Policy on Gender in Peacekeeping Operations.
• Drafts Gender Action Plan and Supports the process of its implementation in the mission’s Gender Action Plan to mainstream gender considerations into the work of each mission component, and technically supports the mission’s Gender Focal Points in other mission components to integrate into the mission’s mandated priorities.
• Supports knowledge management and data collection with regard to gender policy and facilitates the collection and exchange of information between partners and the Gender Advisory Unit. • Drafts, collates and edits specified results based inputs for all gender related reports and documentation as required.
• Coordinates, as needed, with other UN agencies, Funds and Programmes that have complementary mandates on gender related issues through participating in working-level mechanisms, as well as coordinates with relevant institutions.
• Supports the provision of technical expertise as required to relevant partners and mission components on strategies for gender mainstreaming, including expanding the capacity for gender analysis and designing gender-sensitive policies and programmes.
• Supports the results-based budgeting (RBB) process and provides substantive inputs to results based reporting and analysis.
• Supports the delivery of gender training to uniformed and civilian mission personnel and conducts orientation activities on gender mainstreaming in the mission.
• Facilitate dialogue between the Mission’s leadership and civil society organizations, including women’s groups, on gender issues.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in law, international relations, social studies, gender studies or in a related area is required.
A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the field of international relations, law, gender, including women’s rights, peace-mediation and/or peacekeeping issues at policy and operational levels is required.
Experience in the promotion of gender equality in a post-conflict setting with a sound reporting, communication and coordination skills is required.
At least two years of experience related the promotion of gender equality, or women's rights is desirable.

Languages
