SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
The BETA Project is one of four MCA-Lesotho II Projects that comprise the second Compact. Its ultimate goal is to stimulate an increase in firm level profiles and employment from a pipeline of 50 mature stage businesses and 500 MSMEs supported by the Project with focus on those owned by women, youth and other socially underprivileged groups, and MSMEs in rural areas, and priority given to those working in the Horticulture sector.   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
With the support of the HQ Gender Equality Advisor and in collaboration with the BETA Project Team in Lesotho, the Gender and Social Inclusion Manager (GSIM) will:  
  • Conduct a Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA+) focused on diverse project beneficiaries and intersectionality in targeted areas, and which delineates barriers to equality that need to be addressed through targeted strategies and tools and resources fit for purpose. 
  • Develop a global Gender Equality Strategy for the project 
  • Design a Pipeline Development Activity Gender and Inclusion Action Plan (GAP-PD) to identify and create strategies to address constraints specifically among businesses owned by women, youth and other disadvantaged groups.  
  • Contribute to the institutional Strengthening of the Public Private Dialogue (PPD) Secretariat, specifically the Gender, and Social Inclusion (GSI) technical working group (TWG) by overseeing and supporting the GSI TWG in their efforts for gender mainstreaming and gender capacity building efforts. 
  • Design a Business Ecosystem Activity GAP (GAP-BE) to serve as a guide to support GSI tasks under this Activity 
  • Support the development of gender smart financial products for MSMEs 
  • Develop a Financial Ecosystem Strengthening Gender and Inclusion Plan (GAP-FE), to serve as a guide to support GSI tasks under this Activity 
  • Participate in the development of the MEL framework and plan that aligns with the Project’s Logic Model (LM) and Theory of Change (TOC) by ensuring the integration GSI principles into the framework. 
  • Ensure outputs explicitly include reference to at-risk groups. Include explicit sex-and-age-disaggregation of all targets to adequately capture Gender Equality concerns. 
  • Contribute to quarterly report preparation for each activity and other activities as needed. 
 
 
REQUIREMENTS 
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, business, economics, development studies, gender studies or other related field.  
  • 10 years’ experience in integrating gender in MSME business and finance support programs in low-income countries.  
  • 5 years’ experience working on gender in government policy aimed at increasing women’s involvement in business.  
  • 5 years of experience in addressing the needs of other disadvantaged populations 
  • 5 years of experience in capacity building for women entrepreneurs, through efforts such as business development and training, incubators, accelerators, and mentoring programs.  
  • 5 years of experience working on gender and inclusion, on designing programs to address socioeconomic differentiation
Language Proficiency: professional fluency in English is mandatory. Fluency in written and spoken Sesotho is desirable.
