Founded in 1992, Equality Now is an international human rights organization that works to protect and promote the rights of all women and girls around the world. Our campaigns are centered on four program areas: Legal Equality, End Sexual Violence, End Harmful Practices, and End Sexual Exploitation, with a cross-cutting focus on the unique needs of adolescent girls.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership:
Support in strategizing, implementing, and evaluating Equality Now’s campaigns to promote legal equality and end sexual violence, digital violence, and harmful practices, with particular responsibility for Mexico or Colombia campaigns.
Coordinate with partners in Mexico or Colombia and EN legal advisors' submissions to regional and international human rights bodies and public consultations
Contribute to the coordination, drafting, and proofreading of advocacy reports and advocacy letters to government authorities
Identify and lead on opportunities to lever change through international and regional law. Map out clear advocacy strategies, monitor progress, and advise on adaptation depending on national and regional context
Direct substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, and the like, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparing documents and presentations, etc. in the country of focus and at the regional level.
Partnerships:
Develop and maintain close ties with a range of legal actors and civil society partners in Mexico or Colombia and with a small percentage of their time at the regional level, to share information, seek input and/or encourage joint action
Visibility:
Engage through correspondence and meetings with relevant national government and agency officials on active campaigns and leverage the support of global and regional actors
Represent Equality Now in national coalitions and at conferences and meetings at national or regional level
Contribute key messages for communications, actions, alerts and reports and letters to key influencers and government authorities
Management:
Assist the Regional Representative in the development of program strategies, campaign documents, work plans and budgets as necessary
Monitor the work of implementing partners in tracking and following up on work plans, budgets and deliverables for each assigned campaign
Generate, collect and collate evidence to demonstrate the efficacy of the work, the challenges, the adaptations and the impact
Supervise consultants, fellows and interns as required
Provide translation or proofreading as needed
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge and experience
Five+ years of experience in working on human rights issues or working with women’s movements in campaigning on advocacy in Mexico or Colombia with proven experience in creating and maintaining movement building.
A law degree or a master’s degree in gender/women’s rights, international law/human rights law, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of and/or one+ year of experience in international and/or regional human rights law/frameworks and advocacy spaces.
Fluent in written and spoken Spanish and strong conversational and writing proficiency in English skills are required. Proficiency in Portuguese is a plus.
Strong organizational and planning skills with a drive for results
Strong experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning
