We Lead

We Lead is a five-year program (with 2025 being the last year of implementation) that promotes sexual and reproductive health and rights of young women and girls. It focuses on four specific groups of young women: those living with HIV, those with disabilities, gender and sexual minorities and those affected by displacement.

The program is managed from Hivos’ East Africa Hub and is implemented in 9 countries in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. We Lead is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the SRH-R Partnership Fund, which is part of the Strengthening Civil Society subsidy framework. Consortium partners are: Positive Vibes, Restless Development, Marsa, FEMNET, the Central American Women’s Fund, and Hivos as lead party.

Hivos East Africa

As the corporate communication officer in East Africa, you will be part of Hivos’ global communication team with colleagues in Europe, Latin America and Southern Africa. Together, this team is responsible for Hivos’ positioning, branding and sharing the organization’s overall story.

Your responsibilities

 We Lead

  • Coordinate the ongoing process of harvesting of impact/change stories
  • Support the curation of communication products for dissemination
  • Support We Lead teams during close out events (at country level and during the final global learning event)
  • Support teams in shaping communication in global advocacy events to position We Lead and Hivos
Communication strategy and implementation   

  • Implement and adapt Hivos’ global corporate communications strategy in East Africa
  • Implement an annual budgeted editorial calendar by working with various vendors and consultants (think of photographers, podcast producers and visual artists)
  • Provide communication advice and counsel to Hivos East Africa’s executive leadership and Regional Director closely weighing possible (security & reputation) risks
Online strategy and content development         

  • Develop and implement Hivos East Africa’s online strategy and manage the hub’s social media channels
  • Produce, edit and/or curate (multimedia) content for the main hivos.org website through blogs, news items and opinion articles
External positioning

  • Continuously seek targeted opportunities to position Hivos’ work in East Africa through events, media interviews, and op/eds
  • You will closely work together with the Business Development team to package Hivos’ regional work in attractive, impact-driven products, such as two-pagers, track record documents and event branding.
Your profile

  • Degree in media, journalism, communications, public relations or related field from a recognized institution
  • A network under journalists, or the ability to quickly forge partnerships with media professionals
  • At least five years’ work experience an international organization
  • Website and social media management experience
  • Ability to produce video and audio documentaries
  • Exceptionally good writing skills
  • We’re looking for a creative thinker who finds innovative ways to increase the impact of communication work
  • A high degree of integrity and an activist attitude
