Background of the Right Here Right Now programme 

The Right Here Right Now programme is a strategic partnership between Rutgers (lead), ARROW, AMPF, CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality, Reproductive Health Uganda and RNW Media. IPPF Africa Region is a technical partner. The programme runs from 2020 to 2025, taking place in 10 countries in Africa (Benin, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, Tunisia and Uganda) and Asia (Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Nepal) and at a global and regional level. The programme is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Strengthening Civil Society for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) partnership fund. The overall vision of the programme is for young people in all their diversity to enjoy their sexual and reproductive health and rights in gender-just societies.


Objectives 

  1. To collect evidence on the effectiveness of strategies to deal with opposition to SRHR, specifically strategies that the partnership has invested in 
  2. To unpack whether and how those strategies contributed to the resilience of partners when facing attacks by the opposition 
  3. To develop convincing recommendations on what strategies to mitigate opposition are worthwhile investing in 

Deliverables 

  1. Short inception report that contains results and gaps of an initial review of (internal) documents as well as explains the methodology that will be used to fill the gaps, a list of key informant interview and focus group discussion participants, and data collection tools. 
  2. Concise draft report (30 pages max), including: 
  • Executive summary (2 pages max) that can be used as a standalone document 
  • Introduction  
  • Methodology chapter that includes clear explanations on methods, sampling approaches used for case studies, and that reflects on limitations 
  • Presentation of findings in an accessible manner 
  • Conclusions and practical/actionable recommendations regarding  
  • Appendices: list of literature and documents used; list of study participants; data collection tools used; raw data sets
  • 3. An online reflection/validation workshop; including minutes of the workshop itself 
    1. Final report in line with above requirements and integrating all feedback 
    2. A two-pager with key findings in an appropriate format 
 
Profile of the consultant 

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following experiences, qualities, and characteristics: 

  1. A recognized university degree and demonstrable work experience in the field of gender, human rights and SRHR, public policy and advocacy, or investigative journalism 
  2. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in conducting research, including focused literature reviews and qualitative interviews, to explore complex topics and synthesize key findings. 
  3. Sharing our values on SRHR, meaningful and inclusive participation of young people (MIYP), and inclusivity. 
  4. Preference for a young person(s) and a person from the Global South. 
  5. Someone who is a bilingual French/English speaker 
  6. Someone who values a participatory way of working
