The Gender and Development Network (GADN) is an influential network of UK-based NGOs and experts. Together, we promote gender equality and the rights of women and girls in all their diversity around the world. We collaborate with feminist and women’s rights organisations in the Global South, amplifying their analysis and priorities to global policymakers, and we hold the British government to account for its impact on the rights of women and girls internationally. In everything we do, we aspire to feminist, anti-racist, and decolonial principles.
Overall role of the Policy and Advocacy Officer
The Policy and Advocacy Officer is part of a small team at the GADN Secretariat, consisting of the Director, Head of Policy, and Network Coordinator. The post holder will be line-managed by the Head of Policy and will also work closely with the Director and Coordinator. They will work with the Head of Policy and Director to implement the REFRAME programme (75%) and support with our core advocacy towards the UK government (25%). The main duties include: 1. Policy and Advocacy: Provide support to the policy and advocacy work of the network, primarily on REFRAME (75%) as well as core advocacy (25%).
Key tasks include:
• Facilitating the production of publications; this may include research, proofreading, referencing, layout, writing contributions, and coordinating with editors, designers and peer reviewers
• Publicising our outputs to advocacy targets through direct contacts, our social media and website channels
• Researching and disseminating the demands and analysis of women’s rights organisations and movements based across the Global South on REFRAME issues, including via social media
• Maintaining the database of feminists working on macroeconomic issues
• Providing administrative support; for example, in liaising with members, allies and decision-makers, and minuting meetings, as well as facilitating consultation with GADN members on policy issues
• Organising and, at times, attending meetings with advocacy targets
• Maintaining a database of advocacy targets and allies
• Arranging public meetings or webinars as required
• Contributing to the team’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning planning processes
2. Other: Undertake any other reasonable task, as needed.

• Understanding of, and demonstrated commitment to, gender equality, women’s and girls’ rights, and international development issues
• Interest in women’s economic justice issues, and willingness to work on them
• Commitment to anti-racism
• Experience of undertaking advocacy, preferably in a UK context
• Experience of working with organisations in the Global South
• Experience of using social media for advocacy purposes
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience of organising meetings, webinars, or events
• Experience of providing administrative support to a busy team
• IT literacy - including Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
• Proven ability to work on own initiative
• Proven ability to organise and prioritise workloads
