Gender-based violence (GBV)
Our Voices Project 
OCTEVAW, in collaboration with partners, aims to advance women and gender diverse representation in leadership and decision-making roles through mentorship and coalition building. The project focuses on addressing systemic barriers within municipal policies to support Black, Indigenous, and Racialized women in leading policy change initiatives that promote gender equity for racialized survivors of gender-based violence. The project will be stewarded by an advisory council that is representative of the gender-based violence movement and OCTEVAW’s Black and Racialized Caucus.  
Key Responsibilities 

  • Keep track of and analyze relevant policies on the municipal, provincial levels addressing gender-based violence 
  • Organize various education and knowledge mobilization events, facilitating meetings and convening gatherings including Our Voices Symposium. 
  • Lead implementation of mentorship initiatives for Black, Indigenous and Racialized frontline workers in the anti- gender-based violence movement.  
  • Produce written policy briefs, notes, and other knowledge-sharing materials for various audiences 
  • Develop training materials and resources, delivering presentations, capacity-building and other material as needed 
  • Monitor the Black Hair Care Drive Donation Program alongside the Executive Director  

Job Specific Qualifications 

  • Solid understanding of the gender-based violence policy landscape and issues affecting Black, Indigenous and Racialized communities in Ottawa  
  • 3+ years’ experience in policy and advocacy work using an intersectional feminist lens 
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education. 
  • Proven research and policy analysis skills. 
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Excellent oral and written English and French 
  • Experience organizing events and convening stakeholders
