About this position
The Gender and Diversity Division (SCL/GDI) in collaboration with the Environment, Rural Development and Disaster Risk Management Division (CSD/RND) is seeking a professional with a background on mainstreaming gender and diversity actions into rural development and environmental projects to help improve gender and diversity mainstreaming in its operations through (i) technical support for the design and implementation of projects; and (ii) knowledge generation and dissemination.

Given the IDB commitment in its IDBImpact+ institutional strategy to mainstream gender and diversity issues with an increased focus on development effectiveness, the demand for gender and diversity, as well environmental, rural development, disaster risk and resilience expertise during the design and technical supervision of projects, has increased. As such, CSD/RND and GDI as part of the Social Sector of the Bank (SCL/SCL), seek additional technical support to improve the mainstreaming of gender and diversity in both the design and execution of its loan and technical assistance operations. This consultancy will provide such support.

What you’ll do
The consultant will work directly with the CSD/RND Division, and in close coordination with the SCL/GDI Division, to implement of the following activities:

  • Preparation of reports to support gender and/or diversity mainstreaming throughout project design and execution.
  • Background research to support project design, specifically: (i) diagnosis of gender and/or diversity gaps; (ii) analysis and summary of empirical evidence to justify specific interventions aimed at closing gender and diversity gaps within a project’s context; and (iii) identification of baseline data for establishing project indicators.
  • Technical support to project teams on aspects of gender and diversity in project design, execution and monitoring, including participating in project-specific missions.
  • Design of tools that support project teams in incorporating aspects of gender and diversity in a standardized manner across operations.
  • Facilitation of the documentation of good practices in gender and diversity by sharing information using tools such as FindIt (SPD), and others.
  • Elaboration of technical documents related to gender and diversity (e.g., technical notes, working papers, analytical documents) needed to address sector-specific knowledge gaps.
What you'll need
  • Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in social sciences, economic development, environmental sciences, agriculture, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of international development, sustainable development, rural development, agriculture, with specific knowledge of gender and diversity issues in environment, rural development, and disaster risk management.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
