About The Fawcett Society:
The Fawcett Society is the UK’s leading membership charity campaigning for gender equality and women’s rights. Our mission is to create a society where women and girls in all their diversity are equal and free to fulfil their potential. We achieve this through compelling research, impactful campaigns, and the support of our members.
Main duties Public affairs and influencing
• Support the Head of Policy, Research and Advocacy to develop and deliver our public affairs strategy, including responding to Bills and Select Committee inquiries in Parliament.
• Develop and maintain strong personal relationships with a network of political contacts including Members of Parliament, their staff, party members, civil servants, and other key stakeholders, in order to further Fawcett’s recommendations for policy change.
• Draft and deliver internal and external policy briefings, consultation responses and submissions, and press releases, to support Parliamentary and media activity – often with tight timescales.
• Plan and oversee the delivery of events aimed at stakeholder audiences, including politicians, employers and civil society, and the creation of the Women’s Caucus.
Policy
• Work with colleagues and stakeholders to develop policy proposals and reports which respond to the needs of women and girls in all their diversity and tailor them to resonate across the political spectrum.
• Maintain our strong networks with policy and research organisations; identify new contacts and look for opportunities to expand our influence.
• Support the development of Fawcett’s strategy by identifying policy areas with a gendered impact and scoping the potential for change.
• Supporting funding bids to trusts and corporates to fund Fawcett policy and research priorities, and maintaining regular contact with funders and report as required.
Organisational
• Support the development of Fawcett’s networks and alliances.
• Support the development and implementation of Fawcett’s anti-racism strategy
• Act as a spokesperson for Fawcett in the media, at events and in meetings.

Knowledge and skills
• At least 2 years professional experience in a policy or public affairs environment. This could include experience of campaigning for policy change, and/or of working in Parliament, government, political parties or local government.
• Political sensitivity and awareness.
• A strong, intersectional understanding of gender equality and the policy issues that the Fawcett Society campaigns on. • A demonstrable commitment to equality and diversity within the workplace, reflecting Fawcett’s own values.
• Commitment to our journey to become antiracist, including willingness to be vulnerable, to be challenged, and to undertake ongoing reflection and learning.
• Experience of working as part of a small team either in a voluntary or a paid capacity.
