POSITION / ROLE SUMMARY
The Programme Officer will lead the implementation of Equality Now’s campaigns to end sexual exploitation in Africa, especially in Malawi and Kenya. The Programme Officer will also work with other members of the global team to ensure joined-up approaches to the implementation of the campaigns and to contribute to Equality Now’s regional and global advocacy on sexual exploitation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Steer the End Sexual Exploitation campaigns in Africa toward successful achievement of anticipated outcomes through the three Theory of Change pathways (Legal, Collaboration and Advocacy)
Ensure activities deliver agreed outputs, milestones and outcomes and are documented
Manage and report on any key deliverables for specific grants as needed
Work with the Global Lead - End Sexual Exploitation and MERL to commission research and evaluations as needed
Provide legal research, analysis and recommendations on strategy
Support case identification and development
Provide legal input on cases (strategic litigation, class actions, regional court submission etc.)
Identify opportunities to lever change through international and regional law
Prepare and make submissions related to the campaigns to regional and international human rights bodies
Map out clear advocacy pathways and strategies (local, national, regional and international as necessary), monitor progress and advise on adaptation
Develop effective mutually respectful partnerships with clearly articulated change aspirations, roles and mutual accountability
Convene stakeholders and establish coalition(s) with a shared purpose – movement building
Lead on the documentation of the above and support other teams with information about the campaigns when requested.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- An advanced degree in Law or equivalent experience in women’s rights or international human rights
- At least five years professional experience in human rights, women’s rights, social development, international advocacy or international law
- Proven expertise in sexual exploitation, e,g, trafficking for sexual exploitation, sexual exploitation in travel and tourism, commercial sexual exploitation, technology-facilitated sexual exploitation and abuse
- Proven experience in advocacy at the national, regional and international levels
- Proven experience in building and maintaining networks and partnerships, coalitions and movements
- Proven experience in proposal development and grants delivery
- Proven experience in working across a number of countries in Africa
- Proven experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning
- Demonstrable clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate and interact with multicultural and multi-level actors
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally
